Electrical Repairs & Troubleshooting in Charlotte, NC
Touchstone Electric’s Charlotte branch, based out of our Matthews location, completed a multi-day repair and troubleshooting project for Timber Ridge Apartments in Charlotte, NC. Led by technician Theo Coetsee, the work was finished on July 18, 2025 and addressed burned wiring inside a wall, outlet issues following tile work, an exhaust fan installation using a customer-supplied unit, smoke alarm service, and breezeway lighting repairs.
This project was scheduled over 2–3 days to allow for thorough diagnostics, safe remediation, and final testing, with additional apprentice support to keep the job efficient and on track.
What we found
Upon arrival, our team was asked to investigate a suspected case of burned wiring in the wall. We also noted several post-renovation issues, including loose or damaged outlets after tile work, smoke alarms that had been removed and needed service, and breezeway lights that were not operating properly due to a failing light sensor. The customer also supplied an exhaust fan to improve ventilation, which required a careful retrofit to existing conditions.
Work performed
- Comprehensive diagnostics: We inspected, tested, and analyzed the affected circuits to isolate faults, confirm safe conductor integrity, and verify proper breaker and outlet performance before and after repairs.
- Burned wiring remediation: Our technician traced the affected run, addressed the heat-damaged section, corrected unsafe connections, and restored reliable operation in accordance with current electrical standards.
- Outlet repairs after tile work: We secured device boxes, re-terminated conductors as needed, and ensured outlets were set flush, firmly mounted, and correctly grounded.
- Customer-supplied exhaust fan installation: We installed the unit for attic ventilation, carefully fitting the housing, making clean drywall adjustments, reworking the existing duct pathway, and connecting to the existing power source. No new circuits or duct replacements were included.
- Smoke alarm service: Several smoke alarms had been removed; we reinstalled and serviced them and verified proper operation with functional testing to help maintain life-safety readiness.
- Breezeway lights and light sensor: We serviced the breezeway fixtures and replaced the light sensor to restore consistent dusk-to-dawn operation.
- Final verification: A complete round of testing confirmed correct polarity, grounding, and device function across the repaired areas.
Project timeline and crew
The scope required careful planning and a coordinated effort over 2–3 days. Lead electrician Theo Coetsee managed the diagnostics and critical repairs with support from an electrical apprentice to assist with device changes, fixture work, and cleanup—all to minimize disruption and keep the schedule tight.
Results you can count on
The repaired wiring, serviced outlets, and restored smoke alarms improved safety and reliability throughout the affected areas. With the new customer-supplied exhaust fan tied into existing power and the breezeway lighting sensor replaced, ventilation and lighting performance were brought back to consistent, dependable operation.
