Touchstone Electric’s Charlotte branch completed a detailed service visit in Monroe, NC for PM Home Solutions LLC on July 10, 2026. Our multi-tech team — Mark Alaev, Robert Sloan, Matt Silber, Theo Coetsee, Zion Brownlee, and Hunter Cox — was dispatched from our Matthews location to resolve electrical issues, diagnose smart switch problems, and ensure reliable power to key equipment.
What we found during troubleshooting
- Incompatible smart switches: Several smart switches on site were not suitable for 3-way applications or for controlling receptacles, which explained non-functioning controls at the bottom of the stairs (upstairs hall), in the breakfast area, and elsewhere.
- Unknown office switch: A secondary switch in the home office did not appear to control an outlet or known load, warranting trace-out and documentation for the owner.
- HVAC power concern: An attic AC unit received power but tripped shortly after startup, indicating an equipment-side issue rather than a supply problem.
- Dead and defective lighting: A living room light was non-operational, and a garage LED fixture was found to be bad.
- Missing exterior fixture: The specified flood light fixture was not on site.
Repairs and improvements completed
- Dedicated circuit for crawlspace air handler: We added a new, dedicated circuit to serve the existing crawlspace air handler for dependable operation.
- Convenience outlet for condensate pump: An outlet was installed on the same circuit to power the pump. The existing pump cord was not long enough to reach available locations, and that condition was noted for the contractor’s follow-up.
- Smart switch mapping and recommendations: We verified control locations, identified incompatibilities, and provided a clear path forward:
- Six smart controls rated for 3-way locations are required.
- Four outlet-compatible dimmers are required where receptacles are being controlled.
- Lighting fixes: We addressed non-working lights and resolved a bad LED fixture in the garage. The living room light that was installed by others was documented for the contractor with next-step guidance.
- HVAC verification: Supply to the attic unit was confirmed; because the unit tripped after startup, we advised HVAC service to address the equipment fault.
- Exterior lighting status: The flood light fixture was not present; we documented this so it can be installed when available.
