Project overview
On May 22, 2026, Touchstone Electric’s Wilmington team completed a focused Electrical Repairs & Troubleshooting project in Wilmington, NC for RestorePro Reconstruction. Led by technician Francisco Martinez, our goal was to correct several safety issues and bring the affected electrical components up to current code standards.
This service call addressed damaged wiring and missing protection at key connection points. By repairing heat-damaged conductors, adding the proper panel connector, bonding the copper water lines, and sleeving NM-B cable at the water heater, we improved safety, reliability, and code compliance throughout the affected areas.
What we fixed
- Replaced burned hood vent wiring: We removed the heat-damaged conductors serving the range hood and installed new NM-B cable with secure terminations, ensuring proper insulation, strain relief, and safe operation under normal cooking conditions.
- Added a connector to the electrical panel circuit: A listed connector was installed where the circuit enters the panel to provide strain relief and abrasion protection, helping to prevent conductor damage at the cabinet edge.
- Bonded ground to copper water lines: A bonding conductor and listed clamps were used to bond the copper water piping, helping equalize potential and improve fault-clearing performance for safer operation across the home’s grounding system.
- Sleeved Romex at the water heater: NM-B cable near the water heater was routed through protective flexible conduit to guard against physical damage and moisture exposure in this utility area.
Materials and methods used
We selected durable, code-appropriate materials and installed them with clean, serviceable workmanship:
- NM-B Romex 14/2 (approx. 20 ft): Suitable for 15-amp branch circuits serving lighting and general-purpose loads; installed with proper supports and secure terminations.
- 3/4-inch liquidtight/flex conduit (approx. 5 ft): Used to sleeve NM-B near the water heater, with listed connectors and fittings to protect cable sheathing and maintain a professional seal.
- Listed panel connector: Added at the panel entry to provide strain relief and edge protection for the conductors.
- Bonding hardware: Grounding conductor and listed bonding clamps were installed to tie copper water lines into the home’s grounding system.
All terminations were tightened to manufacturer specifications, conductors were neatly routed, and components were installed in alignment with recognized industry best practices for residential electrical systems.
Why these corrections matter
- Fire prevention: Replacing charred or overheated wiring eliminates a critical ignition risk and restores safe operation.
- Shock protection: Proper bonding of metal piping helps clear faults quickly and reduce touch-voltage hazards.
- Mechanical protection: Conduit and connectors prevent abrasion and strain at transition points, extending the life of the wiring.
- Code compliance: Bringing components up to current standards supports safer installations and smoother interactions with local inspections and renovations.
