Our Charlotte team replaced the existing indoor 200-amp main electrical panel, added a new subpanel, and installed whole-home surge protection to support safer, more organized power distribution throughout the home.

200-Amp Main Panel Replacement
For this Matthews electrical service project, our electricians installed a new 200-amp aluminum indoor main panel. The work included replacing the panel and main lug, labeling the new panel, grounding and bonding the panel, reconnecting the service entrance cable, and reconnecting the home’s existing circuits.
A properly installed and clearly labeled electrical panel makes it easier to identify circuits and helps support safer service, troubleshooting, and future electrical additions. The project also included permitting and inspection as part of the panel replacement process.
The newly installed panel includes a 20-year transferable panel warranty. This gives homeowners added confidence in the panel installation while preserving value for a future owner.
New 100-Amp Subpanel With SER Feeder
To expand the home’s electrical distribution capacity, Touchstone Electric installed a new subpanel supplied by a 100-amp, three-pole breaker. Our team ran approximately 10 feet of #2, four-wire SER service entrance cable from the main panel to the subpanel.
A subpanel can be a practical solution when a home needs additional circuit space or when power needs to be distributed more efficiently to another area of the property. By separating circuits into a dedicated subpanel, homeowners can gain better organization and flexibility for electrical improvements without overloading the main panel’s available breaker spaces.
Whole-Home Surge Protection at the Main Panel
Our electricians also installed a whole-home surge protector at the main electrical panel. This type of protection is designed to divert excess voltage safely to ground before it can travel through the home’s electrical system and reach connected equipment.
Power surges can occur because of utility grid fluctuations, nearby lightning activity, or electrical equipment cycling on and off. While no surge protection can prevent every electrical event, a panel-mounted surge protective device can help reduce exposure to routine voltage spikes that may gradually affect appliances, electronics, and hardwired equipment.
The installed surge protector includes a $10,000, three-year covered-equipment warranty, subject to the manufacturer’s terms, exclusions, and secondary insurance requirements. Direct lightning strikes, security systems, and medical equipment are among the exclusions.
