Project overview

Our Raleigh branch completed a permitted and inspected main electrical panel replacement with whole-home surge protection in Turkey, NC on November 19, 2025. Homeowner Elizabeth King trusted Touchstone Electric to modernize her service equipment and improve protection for sensitive electronics across the home.

Lead technician Francisco Martinez managed the upgrade from permitting to final inspection, ensuring a safe, organized, and code-compliant installation with labeled circuits, proper grounding and bonding, and a surge protection system sized for the home’s needs. Elizabeth praised the experience with a positive review — read her Google review.

Scope of work

  • Pulled required electrical permit and coordinated the final inspection.
  • Replaced the main service panel with a 200-amp indoor panel featuring an aluminum bus.
  • Grounded and bonded the new panel; reconnected the service entrance and existing branch circuits.
  • Labeled all circuits for clear identification and future maintenance.
  • Installed a whole-home surge protection system to help shield appliances and electronics from power surges.
  • Provided a generator option for limited power during the scheduled outage.

Equipment and warranties included

  • 200-amp main panel with aluminum bus — includes a 20-year transferable manufacturer warranty.
  • Whole-home surge protective device — includes $10,000 connected equipment coverage for 3 years.
  • Signature Lifetime Craftsmanship Warranty on our workmanship.

This combination boosts safety, reliability, and resilience, while helping protect major appliances, electronics, and HVAC equipment during utility or lightning-related surges.

Breaker configuration installed

  • 2 × 40-amp standard breakers — commonly used for loads such as electric dryers, water heaters, A/C condensers, spas, or EV charging.
  • 3 × 30-amp double-pole breakers — for mid-range 240V appliances and equipment.
  • 10 × 20-amp standard breakers — typically serve small appliance and general-use circuits.
  • 3 × 15-amp standard breakers — for bathroom lighting (per current code) and standard branch circuits.
  • 1 × 20-amp double-pole breaker — for specialized 240V loads where required.

The new breaker lineup aligns with current usage patterns and supports future upgrades, distributing capacity safely across dedicated and general circuits.

Code compliance and inspection

The new panel was brought up to current electrical code and passed inspection. As local jurisdictions continue adopting NEC 2020, some circuits may require AFCI protection. In homes with existing wiring issues (such as shared neutrals), adding AFCI breakers can cause immediate tripping and may necessitate diagnostic work to correct preexisting conditions. Our team advises on these scenarios during assessment and provides solutions to meet code and performance goals.
