Electrical Panel Upgrade Completed in Pinehurst

Touchstone Electric completed a main electrical panel replacement for Traci Baxter in Pinehurst, NC. Our Raleigh branch team, including Joseph Portillo, Ash Ashirin, Scottie Harris, and Francisco Martinez, upgraded the home’s electrical distribution equipment to support safer, more dependable power throughout the property.

Electrical panels play a central role in managing the power delivered to every circuit in a home. When a panel is outdated, damaged, overloaded, or no longer suited to a household’s electrical needs, a professional panel upgrade can improve organization, code compliance, and overall electrical safety. This project included permitting and inspection coordination as part of the completed work.

New 200-Amp Main Electrical Panel

The existing main panel was replaced with a new indoor 200-amp aluminum bus bar panel. The installation included reconnecting the existing circuits and service entrance cable, installing and labeling the new panel, and completing grounding and bonding work. The panel was brought up to current electrical code requirements to help enhance safety and provide a properly organized electrical system.

Because a panel replacement requires the electrical service to be disconnected during portions of the work, Touchstone Electric made a generator available for limited power use during the outage. This helped reduce disruption while the new panel was installed and the electrical system was reconnected.

The installed aluminum panel includes a 20-year transferable warranty. The completed project also included Touchstone Electric’s Signature Lifetime Craftsmanship Warranty.

Breaker Replacement and Circuit Organization

As part of this electrical panel upgrade in Pinehurst, our electricians installed new breakers sized for the home’s existing circuits and equipment. The breaker installation included standard 15-amp and 20-amp breakers for common branch circuits and small appliances, along with double-pole breakers for higher-demand equipment such as dryers, water heaters, air conditioning equipment, ranges, heating equipment, subpanels, or EV charging equipment where applicable.

  • One 90-amp standard breaker
  • One 60-amp standard breaker
  • One 50-amp standard breaker
  • Three 30-amp double-pole standard breakers
  • Nine 20-amp standard breakers
  • Nine 15-amp standard breakers

During electrical panel work, code updates may affect breaker requirements. As NEC 2020 requirements are implemented, an inspector may require certain circuits to receive AFCI protection. AFCI breakers can identify pre-existing wiring conditions, such as shared neutrals, that may require additional troubleshooting to correct.

Whole-Home Surge Protection Installed

To help protect the home’s electrical system and connected equipment, Touchstone Electric installed a whole-home surge protection system at the new main panel. This type of surge protector diverts excess voltage safely toward the grounding system before it can travel through the home’s wiring and reach appliances or electronics.

Whole-home surge protection can help reduce exposure to power surges associated with utility fluctuations, electrical equipment cycling, and certain lightning-related events. Routine smaller surges can gradually affect sensitive electronic components, making panel-mounted surge protection a valuable addition during an electrical panel upgrade.

The installed surge protection system includes a $50,000, 10-year warranty for covered equipment, subject to applicable terms, exclusions, and secondary insurance claim requirements. Direct lightning strikes, security systems, and medical equipment are excluded from covered equipment.
