Touchstone Electric completed a comprehensive electrical panel upgrade for Raymond Ceylor in New Bern, North Carolina. The project included replacement of the main electrical panel with a new indoor 200-amp aluminum bus bar panel, along with updated breakers, grounding and bonding work, circuit reconnections, permitting, and inspection coordination.
A modern electrical panel provides a central, organized point for distributing power throughout a home. This upgrade brought the panel installation up to current electrical code requirements while helping improve electrical safety, capacity, and circuit organization for the home’s existing electrical system.
200-Amp Main Panel and Circuit Breaker Updates
Technician Francisco Martinez and the Touchstone Electric team replaced the existing main panel, reconnected the service entrance cable and existing circuits, and clearly labeled the new panel. The installation also included grounding and bonding of the panel to support a safer, code-conscious electrical system.
To accommodate the home’s circuits and electrical equipment, the project included a range of new standard breakers for common residential loads, including higher-amperage appliances and dedicated circuits.

Whole-Home Surge Protection Installed
As part of this New Bern panel upgrade, Touchstone Electric installed a whole-home surge protection system at the main electrical panel. Whole-home surge protection is designed to divert excess voltage safely to ground before it can travel through a home’s wiring and reach connected electrical equipment.
Electrical surges can occur from power grid fluctuations, nearby lightning activity, and the normal cycling of large electrical equipment. Over time, smaller repeated surges may contribute to wear on sensitive electronics and appliances. Panel-mounted surge protection adds an important layer of defense for eligible connected equipment throughout the home.
The installed surge protector includes a $50,000, 10-year warranty for covered equipment, subject to the warranty terms and conditions. Claims are secondary to an existing insurance policy, and direct lightning strikes are excluded. Certain equipment, including security systems and medical equipment, is specifically excluded from covered equipment.
Permitting, Code Updates, and Long-Term Protection
This project included permit handling and inspection support, helping ensure the work was completed with the appropriate local process in mind.
