Comprehensive Electrical Upgrade in Charlotte, NC
Touchstone Electric’s Charlotte team completed a full electrical panel upgrade and extensive lighting installation for homeowner Anthony Westpy in Charlotte, NC. Led by technicians Robert Sloan and Theo Coetsee from our Matthews branch, this project modernized the home’s electrical infrastructure, improved lighting quality throughout, and ensured everything was permitted and inspected for safety and code compliance.
Completed on 2026-03-20, the scope included new 200-amp main panels, updated branch circuit protection, dedicated appliance circuits, kitchen enhancements, and a whole-home lighting refresh.
What We Upgraded
- Main service panels: Installed two indoor 200-amp main panels and brought the service to current code with proper grounding, bonding, labeling, and reconnection of existing circuits.
- Breakers and protection: Replaced/added breakers to match new and existing loads, including:
- 20x 15-amp standard breakers for general lighting and standard branch circuits
- 20x 20-amp standard breakers for small appliances and heavier branch loads
- 4x 20-amp GFCI breakers for required locations such as baths, laundry, garage, and exterior areas
- 4x 30-amp double-pole breakers for larger equipment like a dryer, water heater, or A/C
- 4x 50-amp breakers for high-demand appliances such as a range, subpanel, or EV charger
- Code and safety: Work performed under electrical permits with inspection. Where inspectors enforce NEC 2020 updates, we addressed requirements that can include AFCI protection on certain circuits.
Kitchen and Interior Lighting Enhancements
- Under-cabinet lighting: Supplied and installed new under-cabinet fixtures for task lighting and a brighter, safer workspace.
- Plug molding for kitchen outlets: Added low-profile, code-compliant receptacle solutions along the backsplash for convenient access to power.
- Garbage disposal with air switch: Installed and supplied a new disposal unit and countertop air switch for clean, safe operation.
- Dedicated circuit for hot/cold water dispenser: Provided a new circuit to support the dispenser’s load reliably.
- Customer-supplied fixtures: Professionally installed owner-provided lights in the Breakfast Area, over the Kitchen sink, Vanity, Kitchen island, three Hall Baths, Powder Bath, and Guest Bath.
- 6 fan/can combos: Installed integrated fan-and-can assemblies for efficient airflow and modern lighting.
- 21 six-inch can lights: Upgraded ceilings with energy-efficient 6-inch can lighting to improve brightness and uniformity.
Smart Wiring and Thorough Diagnostics
Our electricians ran new NM-B Romex to suit the home’s needs: 12/2 for 20-amp appliance and outlet circuits and 14/2 for 15-amp lighting circuits. We also performed targeted diagnostics in the entertainment room to troubleshoot a ceiling light and circuit concerns, ensuring reliability before final inspection.
By pairing GFCI protection in required areas with updated breakers and panels, the home now benefits from improved fault protection, better load management, and a safer, more dependable electrical system.
