Touchstone Electric’s Charlotte branch completed a comprehensive electrical panel upgrade and breaker replacement for homeowner Shane Gorth in Lincolnton, NC. Led by technicians Ash Ashirin and Tyquan Johnson, the project was finalized on 08/27/2026 and was fully permitted and inspected. This Panels & Service Upgrades project brings the home’s service up to modern standards while adding room for future expansion.
Scope of work completed
- Main service upgrade: Installed a 200A indoor aluminum main panel. The new panel was properly grounded, bonded, labeled, and all existing circuits were reconnected to meet current electrical code.
- Breaker replacements and additions:
- 2 × 30A double-pole breakers (typical uses: dryer, water heater, AC condenser, spa, EV charger)
- 4 × 50A standard breakers (typical uses: range, furnace/heater, small subpanel, EV charger)
- 1 × 20A double-pole breaker (small appliance/lighter equipment)
- 12 × 20A standard breakers (general-purpose/small appliance circuits)
- 8 × 15A standard breakers (bathroom lighting per 2020 code and standard branch circuits)
- Whole-home surge protection: Installed a panel-mounted surge protective device to divert excess voltage safely to ground. Coverage includes a $10,000 equipment protection warranty for 3 years (excludes direct lightning strikes; secondary to homeowner’s insurance; see Covered Equipment limitations).
- Grounding system improvement: Drove a new ground rod and installed approximately 20 ft of #6 bare copper grounding electrode conductor (continuous, bonded to the main panel) to strengthen the home’s grounding and bonding.
- AC equipment disconnect: Added a ≤60A pull-out service disconnect to provide a code-compliant means to isolate power for maintenance.
- Permitting and inspection: Filed the electrical permit with the county and coordinated inspection in Lincolnton, NC.
Note on permitting: The electrical permit was included. If a project requires non-electrical permits (for example: Historic Preservation, Environmental/Septic, Zoning, Builders, or other separate permits), those are not included unless specifically arranged.
