Our Charlotte branch (based in Matthews) completed a comprehensive Panels & Service Upgrades project for Roger Bruhwel in Charlotte, NC. On August 26, 2026, technicians Ash Ashirin and Tyquan Johnson upgraded the home’s main electrical infrastructure, replaced multiple breakers, added whole‑house surge protection, secured permitting, and installed a new dedicated GFCI circuit. Scope of work: Electrical panel upgrade and breakers
To modernize the service and make room for new and existing loads, we installed a 200A indoor aluminum main panel and reconnected existing circuits with proper grounding and bonding. Key steps included:
- Main Panel – 200A (indoor, aluminum): Brought to current code, replaced the panel and main lug, labeled circuits, grounded and bonded the panel, and reconnected the service entrance and existing branch circuits. Includes permitting and inspection; a generator was available for limited power during the outage. Panel includes a 20‑year transferrable warranty (as specified for this installation type).
- Breakers installed:
- 1 × 50A Standard (Range, heater/furnace, small subpanel, EV charger, etc.)
- 3 × 30A Standard, double‑pole (Dryer, water heater, A/C condenser, spa, EV charger, etc.)
- 4 × 15A Standard (Bathroom lights per 2020 code and standard branch circuits)
- 4 × 20A Standard (Small appliance circuits)
Note: As inspectors implement NEC 2020, some circuits may require AFCI breakers. Preexisting conditions (such as shared neutrals) can cause nuisance tripping and may require diagnostic time to resolve.
Whole‑house surge protection
We installed a surge protector ($10k / 3yr) at the main panel to divert excess voltage safely to ground during surges from lightning, grid fluctuations, or equipment cycling. This helps extend the life of connected appliances and electronics. The surge protector includes a $10,000 warranty for three years against covered home appliances in the unlikely event of failure. Claims are secondary to the homeowner’s existing insurance and direct lightning strikes are excluded. Covered Equipment includes major household appliances, wiring, outlets/switches, and hard‑wired devices protected by the properly connected SPD; security systems and medical equipment are excluded.
Dedicated GFCI circuit and appliance hookup
To support safe operation of new equipment, we ran a dedicated 15/20A 120V GFCI circuit, including the GFCI breaker, a standard outlet, and up to 50 feet of service wire. The listed price for this item was $475.00. If a panel cannot accept another breaker, our team provides an estimate for the work required to safely add capacity. If declined, we can perform a limited load review to identify alternative tie‑in options at the homeowner’s discretion.
We also completed a major appliance installation for customer‑supplied equipment (e.g., HVAC, stove, dryer, water heater, indoor spa, or EV charger), including the receptacle or hard‑wiring during the same visit.
Permitting, inspection, and compliance
Our team filed the electrical permit with the county and coordinated inspection. This job’s electrical permit covered the electrical scope only. Other jurisdictional permits (such as Historic Preservation, Environmental/Septic, Zoning, separate subcontractor, or builder permits) are not included. If additional non‑electrical permits are required, we advise the homeowner on next steps and can price processing those items as needed.
