Electrical Panel Upgrade and 200A Subpanel in Charlotte, NC
Touchstone Electric completed a comprehensive electrical panel upgrade for Timber Ridge Apartments in Charlotte, NC. Our Charlotte team, based out of our Matthews branch, replaced the aging main indoor panel, installed new code-compliant breakers, and added a 200-amp indoor subpanel to support present and future electrical demand.
Technicians Theo Coetsee and Robert Sloan handled the project from start to finish. Permits were pulled and inspections passed on May 7, 2026, confirming National Electrical Code (NEC) compliance and safe operation for the property.
What We Installed on This Project
The upgrade was designed to improve safety, expand available capacity, and organize key branch circuits for easier serviceability. The scope included:
- New main indoor panel: Modern, labeled, and sized to support current load needs and expansion.
- New breakers: A balanced mix of standard and GFCI protection as required by code and application.
- 200A indoor subpanel: Added capacity and cleaner circuit separation for high-demand areas.

Breaker Configuration and Typical Uses
As part of the upgrade, we installed and supplied a selection of breakers tailored to the property’s circuits. Typical applications include:
- 4 × 15A Standard breakers – bathroom lighting and general lighting/branch circuits (per 2020 code requirements)
- 3 × 20A Standard breakers – small appliance circuits
- 1 × 50A Standard breaker – commonly used for a range, heater/furnace, small subpanel, or EV charger
- 1 × 60A Standard breaker – commonly used for a range, heater/furnace, small subpanel, or EV charger
- 1 × 25A Standard (double pole) breaker – often for a small condenser, well pump, or mini-split
- 1 × 30A Standard (double pole) breaker – typically for a dryer, water heater, air condenser, spa, or EV charger
- 1 × 20A GFCI breaker – bathroom, dining, laundry, garage receptacles, exterior outlets, crawl spaces, and basements
- 2 × Custom electrical labor tasks – professional wiring, terminations, and panel organization
Final circuit assignments are always verified on site to ensure correct protection and labeling according to code and the property’s needs.
Code Compliance, Permits, and Inspection
Every panel and subpanel upgrade we perform in Charlotte is permitted and inspected.
