Project overview
Our Raleigh branch completed a comprehensive electrical panel rejuvenation and safety check for Janet & Peter Hampton in Chapel Hill, NC. Led by technician Christian Cedillos, this visit focused on restoring reliability, improving safety, and confirming proper operation across two electrical panels. The work was completed on October 1, 2025 as part of our Panels & Service Upgrades service, specifically a focused Panel Rejuvenation.
What we did during this panel rejuvenation
Panel rejuvenation is a proactive maintenance service designed to reduce heat build-up, eliminate loose terminations, and keep moisture or pests out of critical equipment. For this Chapel Hill project, our team performed the following on both panels:
- Vacuumed and cleaned the interior of each panel to remove dust, debris, and corrosion-causing buildup.
- Re-tensioned all connections including lugs and breaker terminals to address looseness that can lead to arcing or nuisance tripping.
- Verified proper neutral and ground separation and ensured only one conductor per lug, as required.
- Inspected for water intrusion and sealed any openings to help prevent arcing hazards and keep critters out.
- Confirmed incoming voltage from the electrical provider to ensure stable service to the home.
- Applied antioxidant compound on conductors where appropriate to help prevent oxidation.
- Tested AFCI and GFCI breakers (with homeowner consent) to verify proper protection and response.
This detailed process helps protect the home’s electrical system while extending the life of breakers and equipment.
Safety checks that matter in Chapel Hill homes
In our climate, temperature swings and humidity can accelerate wear on panel components. Tightening terminations, keeping neutrals and grounds correctly separated, and sealing unused openings reduce the chance of arcing and overheating. Confirming correct utility voltage and testing AFCI/GFCI devices further ensures that protective equipment will respond when needed.
- Neutral/ground separation: Prevents unintended current paths and helps protective devices operate correctly.
- One wire per lug: Maintains proper contact pressure and reduces the risk of loose, overheated connections.
- Moisture and pest protection: Sealed openings help keep sensitive components dry and clear of debris.
- AFCI/GFCI validation: Confirms life-safety protection is active where installed.
