Electrical Panel and Meter Upgrade in Lawndale, NC

On December 19, 2025, our Charlotte branch completed a comprehensive service upgrade for homeowner Mukhtar Khan in Lawndale, NC. Led by technician Jose Rodriguez, the project replaced an obsolete subpanel, installed a new 200A meter/panel combo with a riser and weatherhead, upgraded the interior main panel, and safely removed unused deck wiring and a line feeding a standalone post.

This Panels & Service Upgrades project brought the home’s service equipment up to modern standards and improved capacity, reliability, and safety for current and future electrical needs.

Scope of Work

  • Coordinated the utility power drop and secured all required permits and inspections.
  • Installed a 200A side-by-side meter/panel combo with feed-through lugs and a new grounding electrode system (ground rods and grounding conductors).
  • Added a code-compliant riser and weatherhead using IMC conduit, straps, a roof boot, and new service entrance cable to the weatherhead.
  • Upgraded the interior main panel (150A, indoor), bonded and grounded it, reconnected existing circuits, and provided clean circuit labeling.
  • Installed whole-home surge protection at the panel for added equipment safety.
  • Replaced and added breakers to match actual loads, including standard 15A/20A branch circuits and 30A/40A double-pole breakers for larger appliances.
  • Set a 100A two-pole feeder breaker to supply the subpanel using new SER 2/0 four-wire cable.
  • Ran new NM-B cabling (10/3, 12/2, 10/2) for appropriate 240V and 120V circuits as needed.
  • Installed a GFCI receptacle with an in-use bubble cover for outdoor weather protection.
  • Eliminated abandoned wiring from an old deck and removed a line that previously fed a post.

To minimize downtime during scheduled outages, we can make a generator available for limited power use upon request.

Safety and Code Compliance

Our team delivered a clean, code-compliant installation consistent with current requirements followed in Lawndale. As local inspectors continue implementing NEC 2020, certain homes may need AFCI protection on specific circuits. When upgrades trigger these requirements, we review options with the homeowner and, if necessary, perform additional diagnostics to address any preexisting conditions such as shared neutrals.

Key Components Installed

  • 200A meter/panel combo with feed-through lugs and upgraded grounding
