Project overview
Our Raleigh branch completed a code-focused outlet and breaker upgrade for Ground Works - Raleigh in Cary, NC. On February 5, 2026, technicians Gustavo Peralta and Cody Perry installed a new standard receptacle, ran dedicated wiring, and upgraded two 20A GFCI breakers to enhance protection across applicable household circuits.
What we did on this job
- Filed the electrical permit with the county to ensure the work met local and state code requirements.
- Installed one standard receptacle complete with a clean-finish cover plate.
- Ran approximately 30 feet of 12/2 NM-B Romex to supply the new outlet on a properly sized 20-amp branch circuit.
- Upgraded two 20A GFCI breakers at the panel to provide ground-fault protection where required by code (typical areas include bathrooms, laundry rooms, garages, exterior receptacles, basements, and crawl spaces).
This combination of a new receptacle, correct 12-gauge wiring, and panel-level GFCI protection delivers safe, reliable power and improved protection against ground faults.
Why this work matters
- Safety first: GFCI protection is designed to reduce the risk of shock in damp or high-use areas.
- Code compliance: Pulling the proper electrical permit and following best practices helps ensure the project aligns with current electrical codes in Cary, NC.
- Reliability and performance: 12/2 NM-B wiring is the correct match for 20-amp circuits, supporting common outlets and higher-current appliances where appropriate.
- Professional installation: Qualified technicians handle planning, routing, and termination so everything functions as intended.
Materials and equipment used
- Standard receptacle with cover plate for a neat, finished appearance.
- 12/2 NM-B Romex cable (approximately 30 feet) for a 20A-rated branch circuit.
- Two 20A GFCI circuit breakers to deliver panel-based ground-fault protection for applicable receptacle circuits.
All materials were selected to match the project’s load requirements and to support a safe, durable installation.
