Durham, NC Electrical Panel Upgrade & Surge Protection
Our Raleigh branch completed a permitted and inspected electrical panel upgrade and whole‑home surge protector installation for homeowner Angela Cropps in Durham, NC. Led by technicians Ryan Balgobin and Francisco Martinez, the project focused on safety, reliability, and code compliance within the Panels & Service Upgrades and Electrical Panel Upgrades service categories.
Completion date: July 28, 2026
Project overview
We replaced the main electrical panel with a new 200A indoor panel featuring an aluminum bus. The panel was grounded and bonded, existing circuits were reconnected, and the new directory was clearly labeled for easy reference. A whole‑home surge protection system was installed to help safeguard sensitive electronics and major appliances.
Permits and inspections were handled by Touchstone Electric, ensuring the system was brought to current electrical code. During the panel changeover, power was temporarily disconnected; for convenience, a generator was made available for limited power usage.

Code compliance and AFCI protection
As inspectors implement NEC 2020 requirements, adding AFCI protection to certain circuits is commonly required to improve fire safety. AFCI breakers can expose preexisting wiring issues—such as shared neutrals—that may cause nuisance tripping. If found, those conditions require diagnosis and correction to ensure safe, reliable operation.
Craftsmanship and product coverage
- Signature Lifetime Craftsmanship Warranty included on our workmanship.
- 20‑year transferrable warranty on the installed aluminum‑bus panel.
- $10,000 / 3‑year whole‑home surge protector warranty coverage for connected equipment, per manufacturer terms.
