Dependable AC Circuit & Breaker Installation in Charlotte, NC
Touchstone Electric completed a code-safe upgrade for a Charlotte home on July 28, 2026: two dedicated circuits—one serving each outdoor AC unit. This project falls under our Panels & Service Upgrades and Circuit Breaker Repair & Replacement services and was performed by our Charlotte team (Matthews branch) for customer Jonathan Harding.
Dedicated circuits ensure each condenser receives the correct amperage without sharing power with other appliances. This helps prevent nuisance trips, protects equipment, and supports efficient, reliable cooling during peak summer demand.
What We Installed on This Project
Our licensed electricians ran separate, dedicated feeds from the main panel to each AC unit and installed properly sized overcurrent protection and wiring. The scope included:
- 1x 25A Double-Pole Breaker: Sized for a small condenser or similar load.
- 1x 30A Double-Pole Breaker: Sized for a larger air condenser or comparable appliance.
- 30 ft 10/2 NM-B Romex: Correct gauge for a 30-amp circuit run inside the home.
- 30 ft 1/2" Liquidtight/Flex Conduit: Durable, weather-resistant conduit with connectors, fittings, and mounting for exterior equipment connections.
- Electrical Assistant (Apprentice): Additional on-site support to complete the project efficiently and safely.
- County Electrical Permit: Filed to document and perform the work to current electrical code requirements.
The combination of 10/2 NM-B for interior routing and liquidtight flexible conduit at the equipment provides a clean, durable, and code-appropriate installation path from panel to condenser.
Code Compliance and Permitting
We filed a county electrical permit for this Charlotte project to ensure the installation meets current code and inspection standards. Our team sizes breakers and conductors to manufacturer specifications and NEC guidelines, and we clearly label new circuits at the panel for easy identification.
Permit note: The permit included here covers the electrical scope only. Some jurisdictions may require additional non-electrical permits (such as Historic Preservation, Environmental/Septic, Zoning, separate Subcontractor, or Builder permits). If additional permits are needed for similar projects, we will identify them, advise you on what you can handle directly, and provide pricing if you would like us to process any non-electrical permits on your behalf.
Why Dedicated AC Circuits Matter
- Right-sized protection: Matching 25A and 30A double-pole breakers to each unit safeguards motors and controls.
- Better performance: Dedicated feeds reduce voltage drop and help AC systems start and run reliably.
- Fewer nuisance trips: No competing loads on the same circuit means fewer interruptions on hot days.
- Future service clarity: Clearly labeled, isolated circuits simplify maintenance and troubleshooting.
