Project overview in Fort Mill, SC

Our Charlotte team completed an Outlets & Switches service focused on Outlet Installation & Repair for A Deck Above in Fort Mill. The scope included new dedicated power for outdoor appliances, safety upgrades for living spaces, and a weatherproof GFCI receptacle at a backyard fireplace post. Work was performed by technicians Michail Barankevich and Brandon Heggie and completed on July 12, 2024. Dispatched from our Matthews-based Charlotte branch, we delivered a clean, durable installation built for year-round use.

What we installed

  • 20A dedicated circuit for an outdoor refrigerator using 12/2 NM-B, routed and secured to provide reliable power without sharing load with other receptacles.
  • 20A dedicated circuit for a warming drawer to support higher continuous current and reduce nuisance tripping.
  • Outdoor GFCI receptacle with an in-use bubble cover at the fireplace post: connected an existing outdoor-rated 10/2 cable to the exterior panel on a 20A breaker, then installed a GFCI device with a weather-resistant, in-use cover.
  • Three 20A AFCI breakers added indoors serving the dining room receptacle, hallway/foyer, and kitchen receptacles not near sinks or countertops.
  • Three standard receptacles installed with new covers to refresh and improve usability where needed.
  • Three bubble covers installed to protect outdoor outlets whether plugs are connected or not.

Materials and build details

  • 80 ft of 12/2 NM-B for 20A appliance circuits and power runs.
  • 3/4" PVC conduit (select runs) for mechanical protection and clean routing where exposed.
  • Wood post set in concrete for a sturdy mounting point in the outdoor area.

All components were installed to manufacturer specifications with careful routing, secure terminations, and weather-protective measures for outdoor locations.

Why these upgrades matter

  • Dedicated 20A circuits ensure outdoor appliances like fridges and warming drawers get the power they need without sharing with lighting or general-use outlets.
  • GFCI protection outdoors helps reduce shock risk in damp environments and is a best practice for exterior receptacles.
  • In-use (bubble) covers keep outlets weather-resistant even while something is plugged in—ideal for permanent or seasonal outdoor setups.
  • AFCI breakers add an extra layer of protection against arc faults on general circuits serving living spaces.

The result is a safer, more reliable outdoor power setup that supports entertaining, cooking, and everyday use—without overloading interior circuits or compromising protection.
