About this completed project in Creedmoor, NC

Touchstone Electric’s Raleigh team helped homeowner Neena Nowell in Creedmoor with a safe, reliable power solution for a basement air purifier. On November 10, 2025, technician Brad Williams installed a dedicated 20-amp circuit from the outside main panel and added a GFCI outlet in the basement. This upgrade ensures the appliance has the capacity it needs while providing added shock protection in a basement environment.

Location: Creedmoor, NC | Branch: Raleigh | Technician: Brad Williams | Categories: Outlets & Switches; Outlet Installation & Repair

Scope of work

  • Ran a new dedicated 20-amp branch circuit from the outside main electrical panel into the basement to serve an air purifier.
  • Installed a GFCI receptacle with cover at the new outlet location for added protection against shock.
  • Performed a comprehensive electrical cleanup: secured all connections, removed unused wiring, and safely terminated any open hot wires discovered during the visit.
  • Completed functional testing of the breaker and GFCI, verified correct wiring and operation, and cleaned the work area before departure.

What we installed

  • 40 ft of 12/2 NM-B Romex to supply a 20-amp dedicated circuit suitable for higher-current devices.
  • 20-amp standard breaker added to the main panel to protect the new circuit.
  • GFCI outlet with cover installed at the basement location to help reduce the risk of electric shock.

This combination provides the air purifier with its own properly sized circuit while protecting the receptacle location with GFCI technology—an important safety measure for basements and similar areas.

Why a dedicated 20A circuit and GFCI outlet?

  • Prevent nuisance tripping: High-demand devices can overload shared circuits. A dedicated 20A line helps minimize trips and keeps equipment running reliably.
  • Protect equipment: A properly sized circuit supports steady power delivery, which is better for appliance longevity.
  • Added safety in basements: GFCI protection helps reduce shock hazards in areas that can be damp or unfinished.

If you’re adding new equipment or experiencing breaker trips when multiple devices run at once, a dedicated circuit is a smart upgrade. Pairing it with a GFCI outlet in basements and utility spaces adds an extra layer of safety for your home and family.

Clean workmanship and testing

After routing cable and setting the new breaker, our technician mounted the GFCI outlet, installed the cover, and neatly secured the wiring. We then:

  • Used the GFCI’s built-in test/reset to confirm proper function.
  • Verified correct line/load wiring and acceptable polarity.
  • Checked that the 20A breaker operated as expected under load.
  • Removed debris and left the area tidy.

The result is a clean, code-conscious installation that’s purpose-built for the homeowner’s air purifier.

Customer experience

Following completion, Neena Nowell praised our team with a positive review, noting a smooth process from assessment through cleanup and testing. We appreciate the feedback and the opportunity to serve another Creedmoor homeowner through our Raleigh branch.
