Project overview: Dedicated 15A circuit and GFCI breaker in Fort Mill, SC

Our Charlotte team, dispatched from our Matthews branch, completed a safe, code-compliant installation of a dedicated 15-amp circuit with GFCI protection for an electric floor heating system in Fort Mill, SC. The work was performed for Kitchen Tune-Up (CLT) and completed on December 23, 2024 by technician Ben Lively.

This project falls under our Panels & Service Upgrades expertise, with additional focus on Circuit Breaker Repair & Replacement to ensure reliable overcurrent and ground-fault protection for specialty heating equipment.

Scope of work

We supplied and installed a new 15-amp GFCI breaker and ran a dedicated 15A circuit to power the customer’s floor heating. Our team brought new power to the specified box location, installed EMT conduit where needed, and carefully fished wire through finished spaces to minimize disturbance.

  • Installed a 15A GFCI breaker dedicated to the floor heating load.
  • Ran approximately 85 feet of NM-B 14/2 cable on the new branch circuit.
  • Installed 1/2-inch EMT conduit with appropriate connectors and supports.
  • Performed about 75 feet of wire fishing through concealed areas to reach the destination.
  • Provided on-site support with an electrician and wireman to complete the work efficiently and safely.

Per the project plan, final device hookup and the megger test will be completed by Kitchen Tune-Up. Our scope was to deliver power to the box, install the conduit, and provide GFCI-protected overcurrent protection at the panel.

Safety and code considerations

A dedicated 15A circuit helps prevent nuisance tripping and ensures the floor heating system has the capacity it needs. The GFCI breaker adds an essential layer of protection by rapidly interrupting power in the event of a ground fault—an important safeguard for heating elements installed in floor assemblies.

All conduit and cable runs were properly supported and terminated, and the new breaker and circuit were labeled at the panel for easy identification. We follow best practices for routing conductors, protecting cable where required, and maintaining clear, organized panel work.

Note: To route the cable from the panel to the destination, drywall may need to be cut in the garage above the panel to facilitate wire fishing. Touchstone Electric is not responsible for drywall repairs.
