Reliable Panel Space Upgrades and Breaker Replacement in Wake Forest, NC

Our Raleigh branch recently completed a code-conscious panel space upgrade and circuit breaker replacement for homeowner Carrick Brooke-Davidson in Wake Forest, NC. Led by technician Cody Perry, this project focused on safely creating additional room in the existing electrical panel and improving protection where power is used most. Completion date: September 18, 2025.

This service visit is categorized under Panels & Service Upgrades with additional expertise in Circuit Breaker Repair & Replacement.

Project Goals

The homeowner needed more available spaces in the electrical panel to support new 20-amp circuits. Our team’s solution balanced safety, functionality, and code requirements while preserving the existing panel.

What We Installed

  • Tandem 20-amp breakers to free up panel space while maintaining proper circuit protection.
  • 12/2 NM-B Romex (50 ft) for dedicated 20-amp branch circuits, suitable for kitchen appliances, power outlets, and other high-demand loads.
  • GFCI receptacles (2) for enhanced shock protection where required by code, such as kitchens, bathrooms, garages, and outdoors.
  • Weatherproof bubble cover (1) to protect an in-use exterior receptacle from rain and debris.
  • Professional wire fishing (10 ft) to route conductors through finished or hard-to-reach spaces cleanly and with minimal disturbance.

Per panel listing and homeowner preference, we used tandem breakers to create the needed capacity. A tandem-breaker waiver was reviewed and acknowledged in connection with this approach.

Why Tandem Breakers?

Tandem (or “double-stuff”) breakers allow two circuits to occupy the space of one full-size breaker in panels that are specifically listed for their use. When applied correctly, they are a practical way to reclaim capacity without a panel change. Our team verifies panel labeling and local requirements before installation and clearly explains options so homeowners can make informed decisions.

Safety and Code-Focused Upgrades

GFCI protection reduces the risk of electrical shock in moisture-prone or high-use areas. In Wake Forest homes, this is especially important for kitchens, bathrooms, garages, exterior outlets, and other locations specified by current electrical codes. The weatherproof bubble cover keeps an exterior receptacle protected even when something is plugged in, helping extend the life of the device and improving safety in wet conditions.

Results for This Wake Forest Home

  • Freed up panel capacity to add new 20-amp circuits without a full panel replacement.
  • Improved protection where it matters most with new GFCI outlets.
  • Durable, in-use weather protection for an exterior receptacle.
  • Neat conductor routing through finished spaces for a clean, professional look.

Technician Cody Perry completed thorough testing and labeling so the homeowner knows exactly what each circuit serves and that everything operates as expected.
