The goal: safely free up room in the electrical panel for a dehumidifier and sump pump while bringing the affected circuiting into proper alignment with best practices.

What we found
The panel was at capacity and included an improperly used double‑pole breaker serving a single conductor. This setup occupied valuable space while not matching the circuit’s wiring needs. With new loads planned for moisture management (a dehumidifier) and water protection (a sump pump), the panel required both corrected breaker selection and added capacity.
Our code‑minded solution
To restore proper function and open up usable positions in the panel, we replaced the misapplied double‑pole with an appropriate single‑pole breaker and strategically installed a tandem breaker. This approach maintained protection for existing circuits, created the space needed for the new equipment, and kept the layout organized for future service.
- Corrected breaker application: Replaced an incorrect double‑pole serving a single conductor with a properly sized single‑pole unit.
- Freed panel space: Added a 15A tandem breaker to consolidate standard branch circuits and open an extra slot.
- New dedicated capacity: Installed a 30A single‑pole breaker to support appliance needs, aligning with the dehumidifier and sump requirements as planned.
