Professional Circuit Upgrade in Charlotte, NC

Touchstone Electric completed a clean, code-focused circuit upgrade for Duke Energy - Allumia in Charlotte, NC. Serviced by our Charlotte team based out of our Matthews branch, technician Christian Cedillos replaced a breaker and installed new wiring to deliver safer, more reliable power. This project was completed on November 12, 2025.

As a local leader in Panels & Service Upgrades and Circuit Breaker Repair & Replacement, we ensure every component is matched to the load, protected appropriately, and labeled clearly for long-term peace of mind.

What We Installed

  • 20A GFCI breaker: Provides ground-fault protection at the source for receptacle circuits in areas where moisture or concrete floors increase risk, such as bathrooms, laundry rooms, garages, exterior receptacles, crawl spaces, and basements.
  • 30 feet of 12/2 NM-B (Romex) wiring: 12-gauge copper cable rated for 20-amp branch circuits that serve power outlets and higher-demand devices. Project included any needed junction box to maintain continuous, protected wiring runs and proper accessibility.

After installation, we verified correct breaker sizing, continuity, polarity, grounding, and GFCI functionality. The new circuit was labeled in the panel so future service and troubleshooting remain straightforward.

Why a 20A GFCI Breaker?

GFCI protection rapidly shuts off power when a ground fault is detected, helping reduce shock risk in areas more prone to moisture or contact with the earth. Using a GFCI breaker protects the entire downstream circuit from the panel, which is a neat, efficient approach—especially when multiple outlets or locations require protection.

  • Panel-level protection for the whole circuit
  • Enhanced safety in garages, baths, laundry areas, exteriors, crawl spaces, and basements
  • Meets current electrical safety standards when installed to code

Benefits of 12/2 NM-B on a 20-Amp Circuit

Pairing a 20A breaker with 12-gauge copper (12/2) helps ensure the circuit can safely support typical 20-amp loads without excessive voltage drop or overheating risks. It’s a common, reliable choice for general-use receptacles and specific appliances that need a sturdier branch circuit.

  • Right-sized conductor for 20A branch circuits
  • Durable copper wiring for consistent performance
  • Clean routing with properly secured cable and boxes

When to Consider Breaker Replacement

  • Frequent nuisance tripping or a breaker that won’t reset
  • Warm or buzzing breaker in the panel
  • Adding new outlets or appliances to an old or undersized circuit
  • Lack of GFCI protection in areas where it’s required

If you notice any of these issues, our Charlotte team can assess the panel, evaluate load demand, and recommend the right repair or upgrade.
