Level 2 EV Charger Installation in Charlotte, NC

Touchstone Electric completed a Level 2 EV charger installation for Duke Energy - Allumia in Charlotte, NC. The customer supplied the charger, and our Charlotte branch (Matthews location) provided the professional installation with a new 60-amp breaker, SEU #6 wiring, and cleanly mounted 1-inch PVC conduit. A permit was secured for this project, and the installation was eligible for a Duke Energy EV rebate. Completed on November 12, 2025 by our technician Tyquan Johnson.

What we installed

  • Customer-supplied Level 2 EV charger mounted and connected by our Charlotte team
  • New 60A breaker dedicated to the EV charging circuit
  • SEU #6 (3-wire) feeder appropriately sized for the load
  • 1-inch PVC conduit with fittings, supports, and clean routing for durability and a neat finish
  • Permit obtained in Charlotte to keep the installation on record and inspection-ready

The result is a reliable, ready-to-charge setup that supports faster at-home charging while keeping future serviceability and safety in mind.

Why a 60-amp circuit for Level 2 charging?

Many Level 2 chargers deliver up to 48 amps of continuous charging power. To support that safely, a 60-amp dedicated circuit is commonly required so the system can operate within appropriate continuous-load limits. The use of SEU #6 wiring and a dedicated breaker helps ensure dependable performance and consistent charging, even for EVs with higher onboard charger ratings.

If you are unsure what your EV or panel can support, our Charlotte electricians can evaluate your service, panel space, and wiring path to recommend the right circuit size and layout for your home.

Permitting and Duke Energy rebate support

We handled the permit for this Charlotte project to document the installation and streamline inspection. Because the work followed the program’s requirements, this installation was eligible for a Duke Energy EV rebate. Requirements can vary, but our team helps homeowners understand available rebates, what documentation is needed, and how to submit it promptly after installation.

  • Site assessment and circuit sizing recommendations
  • Clear scope outlining wire, breaker, and conduit needs
  • Permit acquisition and coordination as needed
  • Post-install documentation for applicable rebate submissions
