Charlotte Whole-House Surge Protection, Bathroom Fans & GFCI Upgrades

Touchstone Electric’s Charlotte branch completed a safety-focused upgrade for homeowner Luciano Humberto in Charlotte, NC. Led by technician Danny Bishop, the project included whole-home surge protection, improved bathroom ventilation, GFCI protection, new switches and outlets, and an enhanced grounding system. Work was completed on May 7, 2026, with permitting handled for a smooth, code-compliant installation. Proudly served from our Matthews location.

What We Installed

  • Whole-house surge protector: Installed at the main electrical panel to divert damaging voltage spikes safely to ground and help protect sensitive electronics and appliances.
  • Second ground rod: Drove a new ground rod and provided a continuous grounding electrode conductor back to the main service panel to improve the home’s grounding system.
  • Bathroom fan/can combo: Furnished and installed an exhaust fan with integrated can light in the upstairs middle bathroom, including careful drywall work and duct connection to the existing run.
  • Standard bathroom exhaust fan: Installed a new fan in the back-left bathroom; customer supplied the unit and we tied into existing power and ducting.
  • GFCI and receptacle upgrades: Added one new GFCI outlet and two standard bathroom outlets with matching covers for reliable power and protection in wet locations.
  • Switch replacements: Replaced six white toggle switches (combination of 2-way/3-way as applicable) for smooth, consistent operation and a refreshed look.
  • Electrical permit: Filed the electrical permit with the county for inspection readiness and compliance.

Why These Upgrades Matter

  • Surge protection: Voltage spikes from lightning, utility events, or large appliances cycling can shorten the life of electronics. A whole-home surge protector provides a first line of defense at the panel to reduce risk and help extend equipment lifespan.
  • Stronger grounding: Adding a second ground rod and a continuous grounding electrode conductor improves fault-clearing performance and supports the effectiveness of surge protection.
  • GFCI safety: Ground-Fault Circuit Interrupter protection is essential in bathrooms. It reduces shock risk by quickly cutting power when an imbalance is detected.
  • Better ventilation: Properly vented bathroom fans move moisture out, helping prevent mildew, peeling paint, and humidity-related damage. The fan/can combo adds light where it’s needed while quietly exhausting humid air.
  • Updated controls and outlets: New switches and receptacles improve reliability, appearance, and day-to-day usability.

Code-Ready, Professional Work

All work was performed by a qualified electrician and aligned with current electrical code requirements. We secured the appropriate electrical permit, verified existing duct and power connections for the fans, and ensured that the grounding system and surge device were installed at the main panel for optimal performance. The result is a clean, reliable, and inspection-ready installation designed to protect the home and improve comfort.
