Full-Home Re-Device, Lighting, and Safety Upgrades in Charlotte, NC
Our Charlotte branch, based near Matthews, completed a comprehensive outlets and switches upgrade for Meridian Design Build on August 8, 2024. Led by technician Brian Cain, this project modernized lighting, improved ventilation, and elevated electrical safety throughout the home. From decorative receptacle replacements to new GFCI protection and bath fan installations, the space is now brighter, safer, and easier to use.
Scope of Work Completed
- Wafer can lighting: Supplied and installed five 6-inch wafer can lights for sleek, energy-efficient illumination that fits tight ceiling cavities.
- Customer-supplied fixtures: Installed three medium fixtures (pendants/ceiling/chandelier) on existing boxes and circuits.
- Smoke detector system: Supplied and installed a new smoke detector system to enhance life-safety coverage.
- Outlets and switches: Added new outlets in the kitchen and bathrooms and a new light switch in the primary bedroom closet; included both standard and GFCI receptacles where required.
- GFCI protection at the panel: Installed four 15A GFCI breakers to provide code-compliant protection and convert eligible 2‑prong outlets to 3‑prong.
- Bathroom fan upgrades: Installed two customer-supplied bathroom exhaust fans; in the guest bathroom we connected the new fan with a ductwork T-junction for proper venting.
- New double-gang box: Supplied and installed a double-gang box in the new kitchen pantry area for added control and convenience.
- Whole-house re-device: Replaced existing outlets, GFCIs, switches, and plates with decorative, tamper-resistant devices and jumbo plates for a clean, modern look.
- Conduit and workmanship details: Installed EMT conduit where needed for neat, code-compliant runs; an additional wireman assisted to keep work efficient and on schedule.
- Project value: A management discount was applied as part of the final project scope.

Our Process on This Charlotte Project
Before starting, we evaluated the existing devices and circuits to plan a safe, efficient re-device. Brian Cain coordinated fixture swaps, new device locations, and GFCI protection, then verified proper operation at each step. For the bathroom fans, our team carefully removed old housings, made clean drywall cuts, and connected ductwork as specified, including the guest bath T-junction. The result is a cohesive upgrade that pairs clean aesthetics with reliable performance.
