Level 2 EV Charger Install in Charlotte, NC
Touchstone Electric completed a Level 2 EV charger installation for Duke Energy - Allumia in Charlotte, NC, on November 11, 2025. Led by technician Christian Cedillos from our Charlotte branch, this project delivered a safe, code-compliant 240V circuit with a 50A breaker, a short run of 6/3 NM-B cable, and a convenient receptacle mounted beside the main electrical panel.
This job was designed for a customer-supplied EV charging unit, ensuring a clean, reliable connection that supports faster home charging and future vehicle upgrades.
What We Installed
- Dedicated 240V Level 2 EV charging circuit sized for modern EVs and future capacity.
- New 50A two-pole breaker installed and properly labeled in the existing panel.
- Approximately 10 feet of 6/3 NM-B cable routed from the panel to the charging location.
- Heavy-duty EV charging receptacle positioned beside the electrical panel for a neat, direct connection.
- Customer-supplied EV charger accommodated, with testing, verification of polarity and torque, and final function check.
The short, direct run minimizes clutter and supports consistent charging performance, while leaving flexibility to upgrade to a hardwired EVSE later if desired.
Permitting, Code, and Inspection-Ready Work
Our team filed the electrical permit with the county and completed the installation to current electrical code requirements. We coordinate with local inspectors so your project is inspection-ready and properly documented.
Note: The permit covered for this project is the electrical permit only. If a jurisdiction requires additional non-electrical permits (such as zoning or historic), those are separate and handled as needed based on local rules.
Duke Energy Rebate Applied
To help lower the cost of going electric, Touchstone Electric assisted with the Duke Energy EV Charger Rebate. For this Charlotte installation, the rebate was successfully applied to eligible materials and labor related to the new 240V circuit. The customer’s out-of-pocket responsibility was limited to items not covered by the program (such as permitting).
