Charlotte 200A Electrical Panel Replacement & Surge Protection

What We Upgraded

Our licensed electricians removed the outdated equipment and installed a new indoor 200A aluminum main panel. We properly grounded and bonded the new panel, reconnected the service-entrance conductors, and neatly re-terminated and labeled the existing branch circuits. A panel-mounted surge protector with a $10k warranty was added to provide whole-home surge protection.

Power was safely disconnected during the swap. To keep essential needs covered, we made a generator available for limited power usage throughout the outage. All work included permitting and inspection coordination in Charlotte.

Installed Components and Breaker Configuration

As part of the upgrade, our team installed and configured the following standard breakers to match the home’s loads and ensure safe operation:

• 3 × 30A standard double-pole breakers (typical for dryers, water heaters, condensers, spas, or EV chargers)
• 8 × 15A standard breakers (common for lighting and general branch circuits)
• 4 × 20A standard breakers (often used for small-appliance circuits)
• 1 × 60A standard breaker (commonly used for ranges, furnaces/air handlers, small subpanels, or EV charging)

All circuits were tested and labeled so the homeowner has a clear, easy-to-read panel directory for future reference.

Code Compliance, Permits, and Inspection

This Charlotte panel replacement was completed to current code standards, with attention to NEC 2020 requirements now being adopted by local inspectors. We handled the full permitting and inspection process for a smooth, compliant upgrade.

AFCI note: Some jurisdictions require upgrading certain breakers to AFCI under NEC 2020. Adding AFCI protection can expose preexisting wiring issues (such as shared neutrals), which may cause immediate nuisance tripping. In those cases, diagnosing and separating shared neutrals can require additional investigative time, including opening fixtures on affected circuits to locate the issue.

The new panel includes a 20-year transferable warranty, providing peace of mind for current and future owners. The installed surge protector adds an extra layer of defense against voltage spikes and carries a $10k warranty.
