Project overview
Touchstone Electric’s Raleigh team completed a chandelier installation and lighting upgrade for homeowner Michelle Punch in Raleigh, NC. On October 24, 2024, lead technician Brad Williams installed a grand entry chandelier in the front foyer and a matching chandelier in the adjacent hallway. To round out the project, we added whole-house surge protection at the main electrical panel and upgraded breakers to align with current code and reliability needs.
Chandelier installation in a tall foyer
The entryway chandelier was a customer-supplied fixture mounted on the existing electrical box and circuit, positioned at a height over 14 feet. For safe and precise installation, our crew utilized the proper ladders and rigging and assigned an additional wireman to assist with handling and alignment. We verified the ceiling box rating, secured the mounting hardware, and carefully assembled and leveled the chandelier for a balanced appearance as you enter the home.
In the nearby hallway, we installed a second customer-supplied chandelier on the existing box and circuit. This medium-sized fixture was set to the correct height for the walkway, ensuring clear headroom, even light spread, and a cohesive look that complements the foyer centerpiece.
Electrical safety and panel improvements
To protect sensitive electronics and appliances throughout the home, our Raleigh electricians installed a whole-house surge protector at the main electrical panel. This device helps divert excess voltage to ground during lightning events, utility fluctuations, or equipment cycling—reducing wear on internal components and extending the lifespan of your home’s systems. The installed surge protector includes $10,000 of three-year appliance coverage in the unlikely event of failure.
We also upgraded panel protection with two 15-amp tandem breakers to support bathroom lighting (aligned with 2020 code considerations) and standard branch circuits. After installation, we labeled the breakers, tightened terminations to manufacturer torque specs, and verified proper operation. As a final touch, we replaced a light bulb to ensure consistent illumination across the updated spaces.
