On March 18, 2024, Touchstone Electric’s Charlotte team, operating from our Matthews branch, completed a multi-room lighting and ventilation upgrade for homeowner Joshua & Cara Hayes in Concord, NC. Lead technician Danny Bishop installed new bath fan/can units with GFCI protection, added a family-room ceiling fan with proper support and controls, upgraded multiple switch boxes, and checked a rear flood light for proper operation.

Scope of Work Completed

• Bathroom ventilation and lighting: Furnished and installed fan/can units in both the first-floor and second-floor bathrooms.
• GFCI protection: Added ground-fault protection to both bathroom fan/can units to enhance safety around moisture-prone areas.
• Switch box upgrades (bathrooms): Converted existing 1-gang boxes into 3-gang switch boxes to accommodate the new controls.
• Family-room ceiling fan: Ran the necessary wiring, installed a proper fan-rated brace/box, and set the new ceiling fan in place.
• Controls for family room: Installed a new 2-gang switch box for convenient fan and light operation.
• Exterior lighting check: Inspected and tested the flood light at the back right corner of the home to evaluate performance.

As part of the visit, the homeowners also received our Annual Home Safety Membership – Gold checkup, covering smoke/CO detectors, panel safety, code-update considerations, and inspection of loose, worn, or deteriorated connections with sealed connectors where applicable.

Safety, Code, and Craftsmanship

GFCI protection for bathroom fan/light circuits adds a critical layer of protection in damp locations. Our technician installed fan-rated support in the family room to ensure the new ceiling fan is safely braced and compliant with manufacturer and code requirements. Upgraded multi-gang switch boxes provide proper space for conductors, devices, and secure terminations.

Note on access and finishes: To complete wiring routes and install upgraded boxes, sheetrock had to be cut. Touchstone Electric is not responsible for drywall repair following electrical work.

We also performed targeted diagnostic testing to inspect, test, and analyze the electrical system where needed—an important step in identifying issues and confirming everything operates as intended.

Scheduling and payment: This project was scheduled with a 30% deposit to book, with the remaining 70% due at completion.
