Project overview
Our customer requested two key changes: converting a switched outlet in the living room into a standard always-on receptacle, and making the existing wall switch control a specific can light in the TV area. In addition, our team was asked to troubleshoot exterior security lights for safe, reliable operation.
- Converted the living room switched receptacle to a regular outlet.
- Rewired the wall switch to control an individual can light in the TV area.
- Fished new wire from the attic down to the switch box to establish the dedicated switch leg.
- Disconnected the can light from the previous loop and added a new, properly sized cable run.

How we completed the work
Technician Frank Fragale evaluated the existing wiring layout, then established a new, dedicated switch feed to the can light. We fished cable from the attic to the wall switch location, carefully separating the can light from its old loop to eliminate unintended control from the receptacle circuit. The living room outlet was then converted to a standard receptacle so it remains energized regardless of switch position.
To provide a dependable control point, we installed and wired the can light to the wall switch using NM-B 14/2 cable suitable for 15-amp lighting circuits. All connections were made in approved enclosures, and terminations were tightened, labeled, and tested. An extension ladder was utilized where needed for safe access to fixtures and attic runs.
Security light diagnostics
Our team performed systematic diagnostics on the security lighting. This included testing the supply, evaluating switch and sensor function, and checking fixture terminations. The goal was to identify any faults that could affect performance or safety and to provide clear next steps to the homeowner based on test results.
