Basement Circuit, Outlet, and Switch Work Completed in Burlington, NC
Our Raleigh branch completed a dedicated 15-amp basement circuit with new outlets and switches for homeowner Chris Juengel in Burlington, NC. Led by technician Brad Williams, this project was finished on March 10, 2025 and delivered a cleaner, safer, and more reliable power solution for the basement space.
Project Overview
Basements often have limited receptacles or legacy wiring that can lead to tripping breakers, overused extension cords, and safety concerns. To solve this, we installed a new dedicated 15-amp branch circuit to serve general-purpose basement needs and updated controls for existing lighting with new switches. Exposed sections were protected with EMT conduit for durability and code compliance.
- Ran a dedicated 15-amp circuit to the basement
- Installed a new 15A breaker in the panel
- Mounted and secured EMT conduit on exposed wall sections with proper connectors and fittings
- Pulled THHN conductors through conduit and used NM-B 14/2 cable where runs were protected in finished areas
- Added two standard receptacles with new covers
- Re-ran switch wiring and installed two new standard switches
- Safely demoed obsolete wiring to reduce clutter and future confusion
This approach delivers reliable power where it’s needed, minimizes extension-cord dependence, and provides a neat, professional finish that’s easy to maintain.
Materials and Methods Used
- Approximately 30 ft of 3/4-inch EMT conduit with connectors and LBs for a secure, code-compliant exposed run
- About 40 ft of NM-B 14/2 cable for protected indoor segments of the 15-amp circuit
- About 40 ft of THHN #12 conductors for the conduit portion of the run
- Two standard receptacles and plates for added convenience
- Two standard switches for reliable lighting control
- One 15A breaker dedicated to the new basement circuit
- Targeted demo to remove outdated wiring as needed
All terminations were tightened to spec, circuits were properly grounded, and devices were tested to confirm correct polarity and function. Conduit was supported at required intervals and transitions between cable and conduit were handled with appropriate fittings for a clean, professional install.
Why This Upgrade Helps
- Dedicated capacity: Reduces nuisance tripping and powers basement tools, a dehumidifier, or general-use devices more reliably.
- Safer, neater runs: EMT conduit protects exposed wiring and keeps pathways organized and easy to service.
- Better access: Two new outlets lessen reliance on power strips and extension cords.
- Smoother control: New switches provide dependable operation for existing lighting or equipment.
