200 Amp Electrical Panel Upgrade in Burlington, NC
Our Raleigh branch completed a comprehensive 200 amp electrical panel upgrade and installation for homeowner Landon Hines in Burlington, NC on April 3, 2024. Lead electrician Patrick Burke handled the project from start to finish, focusing on capacity, safety, and code compliance.
Scope of Work
This project fell under our Panels & Service Upgrades category, with a specific focus on Electrical Panel Upgrades. The work included a full modernization of the home’s distribution equipment and protective devices.
- New 200A outdoor panel (40/80 space): Installed to provide ample room for current and future circuits while improving accessibility.
- Main indoor panel upgrade (200A, aluminum): Brought to current electrical code, including proper grounding and bonding, new labeling, reconnection of the service entrance cable, and reconnection of existing circuits.
- Surge protection: Added whole-home surge protection to help safeguard sensitive electronics and appliances.
- AFCI protection: Installed three 15A AFCI breakers and one 20A AFCI breaker to enhance safety on bedroom, living area, and general-use receptacle circuits.
- EV-ready capacity: Added four 30A double-pole breakers suitable for high-demand equipment such as EV chargers.
- Standard breakers: Installed six 20A and three 15A standard breakers where appropriate to support lighting and general circuits.
- Annual Home Safety Membership – Gold visit: Performed a whole-home safety check covering smoke/CO detectors, panel safety, code updates, and inspection of loose, worn, or deteriorated connections with sealing where needed.
Power was safely disconnected to complete the work, and temporary power options were available to minimize disruption during the scheduled outage.
Why Upgrade to a 200A Panel?
- More capacity: A 200 amp service supports modern homes with EV chargers, HVAC, and future additions, reducing nuisance trips and bottlenecks.
