Pool & Hot Tub Electrical in Belmont, NC — Project Overview

Touchstone Electric’s Charlotte team completed a specialty Pool & Hot Tub Electrical project in Belmont, NC for Ivy Creek Pools on July 2, 2024. Led by technician Ben Lively, this installation delivered a safe, organized power distribution setup for a new pool, spa, water feature, and landscape lighting—tailored for long-term reliability and easy service.

Another contractor provided a separate meter and primary power to the pool house. From that source, our team installed a dedicated subpanel at the pool equipment area (enclosed on three sides) and wired all associated pool and outdoor loads to meet local code and manufacturer requirements.

Scope of Work

We coordinated with the customer, who handled trenching and conduit installation. Our work focused on clean, code-compliant terminations, correct circuit protection, and clear labeling throughout the system.

  • Outdoor subpanel (midsized 12/24, up to 125A): Installed at the equipment location to centralize pool and spa power. We supplied and pulled approximately 103 ft of #2 THHN feeder conductors to serve the panel and completed a permitted installation.
  • Jandy control panel + Aqualink (120V): Set up the Jandy equipment control to integrate with Aqualink automation for convenient operation and future expansion.
  • Dedicated equipment circuits: 240V pool circulation pump; 120V salt generator; 120V water feature pump for dependable performance and simplified service.
  • Pool lighting transformer (120V): Installed transformer for six low-voltage pool lights to enhance nighttime visibility and ambiance.
  • Hot tub power and protection: Provided a 50A GFCI feed for the hot tub along with a local disconnect on the patio. The hot tub’s own manufacturer-provided disconnect was used per specifications.
  • Landscape lighting wiring: Ran approximately 150 ft of feeder and made weatherproof terminations to customer-supplied fixtures.
  • Additional convenience power: Installed a spare weather-resistant GFCI receptacle with in-use (bubble) cover for outdoor-safe access to power.

Note: Pool bonding was completed by another company. Our team coordinated to ensure all interconnections aligned with code and equipment requirements.

Safety, Compliance, and Reliability

From properly sized feeders to GFCI protection and weatherproof enclosures, every component was selected and installed to support safe operation around water. The subpanel and controls were mounted for serviceability, and circuits were labeled for quick troubleshooting. We also verified proper separation of wet-area loads and ensured the equipment area’s three-wall enclosure was accounted for in placement and ventilation considerations.
