Project overview
This project focused on modernizing two bathrooms with efficient lighting, improved ventilation, and added safety through proper receptacle protection and dedicated wiring for higher-demand accessories. Customer-supplied fixtures were installed throughout, and our team carefully integrated everything with the existing electrical system while adding new wiring where needed.
Guest bathroom: lighting, outlets, and ventilation
- Installed a customer-supplied vent fan/light combo in the existing ceiling location, reworking the housing and duct connection to fit properly.
- Added four new outlets to support the client’s layout: two for a desk drawer area, one wall outlet, and one for a lighted mirror over the desk drawer.
- Relocated power feed from the old light above the mirror to a new lighted mirror centered over the vanity.
- Installed a customer-supplied ceiling light in the existing location.
- Mounted and connected two customer-supplied lighted mirrors (one centered over the vanity, one at the desk drawer area).
- Installed new switches for convenient control of the updated lighting and fan.
- Added recessed can lighting to enhance overall illumination and eliminate shadows around the vanity area.
Primary bathroom: fixture relocation and fan upgrade
- Moved electrical from an existing ceiling light to power a new, customer-supplied ceiling fixture per the updated layout.
- Installed a customer-supplied vent fan/light combo in the existing location and reworked the housing and duct connection for proper airflow.
- Added new switches and controls for the lighting and fan.
- Expanded lighting with additional recessed can lights to brighten the space and improve task lighting.
Dedicated circuits for heated towel racks
To safely power heated towel racks in both bathrooms, our electricians installed dedicated circuits with GFCI breaker protection. This approach helps prevent nuisance trips on shared circuits, supports the higher load of warming accessories, and aligns with current electrical safety practices in bathrooms.
Code-compliant wiring, protection, and testing
- Ran new NM-B wiring (12/2 and 12/3) where needed to support added lighting, receptacles, and dedicated loads.
- Installed GFCI protection at required locations and used GFCI breakers for the dedicated towel-rack circuits.
- Fished wire through finished areas with minimal disruption and performed careful patch-ready terminations.
- Labeled circuits and verified proper switch operation, fixture function, and fan airflow.
Permit: We filed the electrical permit with the county for this scope of work. Note: Jurisdictional requirements vary. Non-electrical permits (such as historic, environmental/septic, zoning, subcontractor, or builder permits) are not included in electrical permitting and, if needed, are handled separately.
