Bathroom lighting corrections and device layout in Charlotte, NC
Touchstone Electric’s Charlotte team, operating from our Matthews branch, was called to evaluate and correct bathroom lighting and device placement for DeRhodes Construction (Amen Corner Construction, LLC) in Charlotte, NC. This visit focused on precise sconce alignment, refining the switch/outlet layout by the vanities, and preparing a quote to replace undersized exterior coach lights the homeowner had already upgraded.
Date of service: June 9, 2026 | Service category: Lighting & Ceiling Fans – Lighting Installation
Scope identified during this visit
- Sconce leveling: The right sconce on the closet wall was measured at approximately 1 inch lower than the left. The left fixture’s height was confirmed as the preferred reference. Our plan is to reset the right sconce to match for a balanced, finished look.
- Switch and outlet order at vanities: The homeowner’s requested configuration is switch – outlet – outlet – switch (left to right). The current layout is switch/outlet – switch/outlet. We outlined a reconfiguration plan to achieve the requested sequence and ensure GFCI protection and proper labeling.
- Exterior coach light swap (quoted): Three existing fixtures were too small for the space. The homeowner purchased new coach lights, and we provided a quote to remove the old fixtures and install the new ones.
- Pending mirror coordination: Final installation of the sconce lights is to follow once the bathroom mirrors are hung, ensuring precise centering and spacing.
- Bath fan can light bulb: A replacement bulb is needed for the bath fan’s recessed can light and will be addressed during the follow-up visit.
All recommendations and planned adjustments align with current local code and manufacturer specifications to protect fixture warranties and ensure safe operation.
Safety and code-minded considerations
- Secure mounting and correct height alignment for sconces to ensure even illumination and a consistent sightline with mirrors once installed.
- Appropriate GFCI protection for bathroom receptacles, proper device box fill, and sound terminations for long-term reliability.
- Weather-rated boxes and gasketing for exterior coach lights, with sealed penetrations to keep moisture out and maintain the home’s exterior envelope.
Our team emphasizes neat workmanship and compliance so the finished result looks great and performs safely for years to come.
Our process on this project
- Verified measurements and documented fixture heights to establish the correct reference point for sconce leveling.
- Mapped the existing switch/outlet positions and identified the most efficient path to the requested switch – outlet – outlet – switch sequence.
- Assessed the exterior light locations and fixture compatibility, then prepared a clear, line-item quote for the three-coach-light swap.
- Coordinated timing for sconce installation to follow mirror hanging for accurate placement.
Upon completion of the scheduled follow-up, the bathroom lighting and device layout will be clean, consistent, and aligned with the homeowner’s vision.
