Project overview
Our Matthews branch completed a bathroom lighting and exhaust fan upgrade for homeowner Ben Hanzl in Charlotte, NC. On July 2, 2024, technician Brian Cain led this Lighting & Ceiling Fans project, which included both lighting installation and ventilation improvements tailored to the space and the homeowner’s goals.
The finished scope delivered better task lighting at the vanity, balanced ambient light across the room, and reliable moisture control with a properly vented bath fan. All work was performed under permit and inspected for code compliance as part of our standard process in Charlotte.
Scope of work
- New bathroom exhaust fan: We supplied and installed a regular bath fan at the center of the bathroom to improve airflow and reduce humidity. Venting was addressed by extending the duct to the soffit or installing an adapter from the existing fan, based on site conditions.
- Recessed light relocation: We relocated the existing LED shower can light to the center of the bathroom for more even ambient illumination and a cleaner lighting plan.
- Vanity sconce lighting: We supplied and installed three new light boxes and wiring for vanity sconces and removed the previous vanity fixture to enhance task lighting at the mirror.
- Outlet rewiring and relocation: We relocated and wired two bathroom outlets to better align with the updated layout and safe, convenient usage.
- New light switch: We installed a new switch as part of the updated lighting controls for the space.
- Permitting and inspections: We filed the electrical permit with the county and scheduled the relevant inspections to verify compliance.
