Project overview
Location: Concord, NC | Customer: MUSE Residential | Technician: Jose Rodriguez | Branch: Charlotte (Matthews) | Completed: June 9, 2025
Our Charlotte team completed a comprehensive bathroom lighting and power upgrade for a home in Concord, NC. The work focused on improved lighting, reliable ventilation, and safer, code-compliant power for bathroom receptacles—plus a convenient new outlet above the family-room fireplace.
Scope of work completed
- Furnished and installed (2) fan/light combo (fan‑can) units in the bathrooms. The upstairs bath received GFCI protection due to its location in the shower area, supplied by a faceless GFCI device inside the cabinet.
- Installed (2) 6-inch LED wafer lights—one replacing a can light in the first-floor shower and another replacing the overhead fixture in the second-floor bathroom.
- Replaced (2) homeowner‑provided vanity fixtures for brighter, more even task lighting.
- Furnished and installed a new 20A dedicated bathroom receptacle circuit. To access the upstairs, our team ran a discrete section of conduit through the garage and added point‑of‑use GFCI outlets for personal safety and code compliance.
- Added a new outlet above the family-room fireplace and protected that circuit with an AFCI breaker.
- Replaced aging bathroom controls with (6) new single‑pole switches and updated (2) three‑gang wall plates for a clean, uniform look.
To support the dedicated 20A receptacle circuit and lighting upgrades, we used NM‑B 12/2 for higher‑load devices and NM‑B 14/2 for lighting runs, ensuring appropriately sized wiring throughout. An electrical apprentice provided additional on‑site assistance to keep the project running efficiently.
Safety-first electrical upgrades
Bathrooms in Concord, NC benefit from targeted safety measures. This project included GFCI protection where water exposure is possible and AFCI protection for the new fireplace circuit to reduce arc‑fault risks. The faceless GFCI in the upstairs bath cabinet provides upstream protection for equipment in the shower area while keeping the finished space uncluttered.
Results for the homeowner
- Brighter, cleaner lighting: Slim 6-inch wafer lights deliver even illumination without bulky fixtures.
- Better ventilation: Fan/light combos help manage moisture, supporting long‑term finishes and air quality.
- Reliable power where it’s needed: A dedicated 20A bathroom circuit supports grooming tools and small appliances without nuisance trips.
- Upgraded controls: New switches and refreshed wall plates improve daily use and the room’s finish.
- Convenience for living spaces: The fireplace outlet adds flexibility for decor and devices, backed by AFCI protection.
