Touchstone Electric’s Charlotte branch recently completed a clean, code-compliant bathroom lighting upgrade for homeowner Julie Horsting in Matthews, NC. On December 18, 2025, our technician Danny Bishop installed a proper electrical box for a bathroom light and mounted Julie’s customer-supplied fixture. During the same visit, we also ran 6/3 NM‑B to set up a 50A, 240V appliance hookup as requested.
Project highlights
- Code-compliant fixture box: We replaced the existing box with the correct, securely mounted, code-compliant box suitable for a bathroom environment.
- Customer-supplied light installation: The new bathroom light fixture was mounted to the corrected box and tied into the existing lighting circuit, with neat terminations and proper support.
- 240V appliance hookup prep: We ran approximately 20 feet of 6/3 NM‑B to accommodate a 50-amp, 240-volt appliance connection, providing a robust pathway for high-demand equipment.
- Testing and verification: After installation, we verified secure mounting, correct operation of the light, and proper voltage readings at the new 240V connection point.
Why this work matters
- Safety and longevity: A correctly sized and mounted electrical box prevents fixture loosening, overheating, and arcing—critical in moisture-prone bathroom spaces.
- Right wire for the load: 6/3 NM‑B is the appropriate cable type and gauge for many 50A, 240V residential appliances, helping ensure dependable performance.
- Clean workmanship: Proper cable routing and secure terminations reduce nuisance trips, flicker, and premature wear on fixtures and appliances.
Service scope and notes
This visit included a fixture installation on the existing circuit, correction of the fixture box, and an appliance installation setup for a customer-supplied unit. Per the selected service scope, the visit did not include a new breaker, a disconnect, or permitting; those services are available upon request if needed for your project. The customer also qualified for our Service Call Discount by approving the work while we were on site.
