Project overview
On May 22, 2026, our Asheville business unit completed a bathroom electrical update for Re-Bath Charlotte in Newland, NC. The project involved relocating a bathroom outlet to fit a new vanity, installing a GFCI receptacle, adding two standard switches, and setting a customer-supplied light fixture. With accessible attic space, our team used professional wire fishing techniques to reroute the circuit cleanly and minimize drywall disturbance.
Technicians: Aaron Smith, Justin Wallace, and Frank Fragale from our Hendersonville branch.
What we did
- Filed the required county electrical permit for the outlet relocation and switch work.
- De-energized and verified the bathroom circuit for a safe work environment.
- Pulled the existing outlet cable up into the attic and installed a code-compliant junction box.
- Routed approximately 15 ft of 12/2 NM-B cable through the attic and wall cavity, including about 8 ft of careful wire fishing through tight spaces.
- Fished down to the new vanity location and mounted a GFCI receptacle with a matching cover plate.
- Installed and wired two standard switches to control the bathroom lighting as requested.
- Set the customer-provided light fixture on the existing ceiling box and confirmed secure mounting.
- Performed function checks, including GFCI trip/reset testing, and cleaned the workspace.
Materials and methods
- 12/2 NM-B cable for the circuit extension and new outlet location.
- Listed junction box secured in the attic for a neat, accessible splice.
- Standard two-way switches for dependable light control.
- Customer-supplied light fixture installed on the existing circuit and box.
- Professional wire-fishing tools to protect finishes and reduce wall repairs.
All wiring terminations were tightened to manufacturer specifications, with conductors neatly organized and labeled as needed for future service.
Why GFCI protection matters in bathrooms
Bathrooms are considered wet locations, and the National Electrical Code requires ground-fault circuit interrupter protection for receptacles. A properly installed GFCI helps reduce the risk of shock by cutting power in milliseconds if a fault is detected. We positioned the new receptacle to suit the vanity layout while providing reliable GFCI protection for everyday devices like hair dryers and shavers.

For this job, we filed the electrical permit with the county and completed the relocation using approved materials and best practices, including a secured attic junction box and protected cable routing.
Permit requirements can vary by jurisdiction. Our service includes the electrical permit only; additional non-electrical permits (such as zoning, septic, building, subcontractor, or historic review) are not included. If other permits are required, we inform you of what you may need to handle, or we can provide pricing for assistance with processing.
