200A Service, Meter, and Panel Upgrade in Ballantyne

Touchstone Electric completed a permitted 200-amp service upgrade with a new meter/panel combo and grounding system for homeowner Max Nunez in Ballantyne. Our Charlotte team, dispatched from our Matthews branch, finished the project on June 25, 2026. Technicians on site included Matt Silber, Anthony Vazquez, and Dillon Culley.

Scope of Work

This project falls under our Panels & Service Upgrades and Meter Base & Service Replacement services. We installed a modern, code-compliant meter/panel combo rated for 200A with feed-through lugs, built to support present load and future expansion. A new grounding system was installed and bonded, circuits were clearly labeled, and a basic surge protector was added for whole-home protection.

Permitting and Utility Coordination

We handled the electrical permit with the county and coordinated the power drop with the local utility to complete the service change safely and efficiently. Every jurisdiction has unique requirements; this job included only the electrical permit. If projects require Historic Preservation, Environmental/Septic, Zoning, separate subcontractor, or building permits, those are handled separately and can be quoted as needed.

Code and Safety Considerations

As inspectors implement NEC 2020, certain circuits may be required to use AFCI breakers. In some homes, preexisting wiring conditions—such as shared neutrals—can cause nuisance tripping and may require additional diagnostic time to resolve. Our team communicates these possibilities up front so homeowners understand potential next steps if an inspector requires AFCI upgrades.

Note: The scope above did not include the riser/weatherhead, service-entrance cable from the new meter to the weatherhead, or feeder and conduit to additional main panels (if needed). For outage periods, we can make a generator available for limited temporary power upon customer request.
