AC Circuit Install and Disconnect Replacement in Charlotte, NC
On 2025-04-11, the Touchstone Electric Charlotte team, operating from our Matthews location, completed a safe, reliable power upgrade for GJK Remodeling, LLC in Charlotte, NC. Technician Matthew Castello installed a dedicated 30-amp AC circuit with a GFCI breaker, ran liquid-tight conduit to the outdoor unit, and replaced the existing AC service disconnect. This project falls under our Panels & Service Upgrades and Service Disconnects services.
Project overview
To support a new or replacement air-conditioning condenser, we provided a dedicated 30A feeder from the home’s electrical panel using NM-B 10/2 cable. At the exterior, we transitioned to 3/4-inch liquid-tight flexible conduit for a clean, weather-resistant run to the equipment location. We also installed a new ≤60A pull-out disconnect so the AC system can be safely isolated during maintenance. The final result delivers dependable HVAC power with modern GFCI protection for added safety.
Work completed
- Dedicated AC circuit: Ran approximately 50 ft of NM-B Romex 10/2 cable to supply a 30A, 240V air-conditioning load.
- GFCI protection: Installed a 30-amp double-pole GFCI breaker to enhance protection for the outdoor AC equipment.
- Outdoor disconnect replacement: Swapped in a ≤60A pull-out equipment disconnect for a clear, code-required means of local service shutoff.
- Liquid-tight conduit: Added 3/4-inch flexible, liquid-tight conduit (with fittings and supports as applicable) to protect conductors in the outdoor environment.
- Exterior penetration and sealing: Drilled and sealed the wall penetration to help keep out moisture and pests and preserve the building envelope.
Every component was selected to match the AC load requirements and outdoor conditions, supporting safe operation, easy servicing, and long-term reliability.
