Touchstone Electric completed a comprehensive 600-amp service upgrade for Matthew Johnson in Mooresville, NC. Led by technician Ben Lively from our Charlotte team (Matthews branch), this project modernized the property’s electrical infrastructure with utility-grade components, outdoor main breaker panels, robust grounding, and whole-home surge protection. Completed on September 25, 2024, the installation was permitted and inspected for code-compliant performance and safety.

Materials and methods

Our team installed heavy-gauge THHN 4/0 conductors for high-capacity feeders and utilized outdoor-rated aluminum main panels brought to current electrical code. Each panel was grounded, bonded, labeled, and reconnected to existing service entrance conductors and branch circuits. To minimize disruption during the scheduled outage, we planned for a temporary generator solution to provide limited power if needed.

Inspection-ready and compliant

From permitting to final inspection, Touchstone Electric handled the process to help ensure a smooth utility handoff and a safe, compliant installation. Our Charlotte-area team follows NEC requirements and local Mooresville/region standards for service equipment, grounding electrodes, conductor sizing, and exterior panel installations.

Home Safety Plan included

This project included our Annual Home Safety Plan - GOLD initial inspection to benchmark the system after the upgrade. Key checks include:

  • Panel inspection: voltage readings, bus condition, bonding, and proper KO sealing
  • Safety device testing: surge protector and service disconnects
  • Main service review: meter base condition, feeders, riser/weatherhead, water intrusion, and grounding system
  • Home protection systems: Smoke/CO detectors, security and camera systems
  • Equipment disconnects: HVAC and major appliances
  • GFCI testing in required areas
