Comprehensive 600A Service Upgrade in Matthews, NC
Touchstone Electric completed a whole-home electrical modernization for Sonal Patel in Matthews, NC. Led by technicians Theo Coetsee and Jeffrey Hughes from our Charlotte branch, this project centered on a robust 600-amp utility service and extensive interior and exterior upgrades to support modern living, efficiency, and safety. Completed July 2025, the work aligns with our Panels & Service Upgrades and Meter Base & Service Replacement specialties.
Core Electrical Infrastructure
- Supplied and installed a 600A meter base with CT cabinet to handle high-demand service.
- Installed three 200A main breaker panels for balanced load distribution and future expansion.
- Installed a pool room subpanel and a 200A pool house panel for dedicated outdoor power needs.
- Added a complete grounding system for safety and code compliance.
This backbone ensures reliable capacity for everyday use, specialty equipment, and future upgrades without overloading circuits.
Power for Today’s Lifestyle
- EV readiness: Installed two 220V car charger outlets across the garages.
- Appliance circuits: Dedicated power for ovens, dryer, instant hot water heater, and AC disconnects.
- Office and specialty circuits: New 20A office circuits, a dedicated circuit as discussed with the homeowner, and hardwired doorbell.
- Comfort features: Circuits for electrical fireplace blowers and support for a mini-split in the office.
- Smart home and low-voltage: Hardwired low-voltage runs per plan and integration for customer-supplied smart switches.
All outlets and lighting were installed to meet NEC 2020 standards, providing safe, organized power throughout the residence.
Lighting & Controls
- Installed 153 LED recessed lights for efficient, uniform illumination.
- Added 67 additional light points for accent, task, and decorative lighting across living areas, bedrooms, and halls.
- Created a dedicated under-stair lighting circuit for the floating stair feature.
- Installed floor outlets in three rooms to power seating areas and media zones.
- Fitted all Decora paddle-style devices (outlets and switches) and installed customer-supplied custom fixtures where specified.
From the kitchen and entertainment areas to bedrooms, baths, and stairways, the home now benefits from versatile lighting layers and smart-ready switching.
Outdoor, Pool House, and Site Electrical
- Power for landscape lighting, soffit downlighting, and walkway/entry step illumination.
- Circuits for outdoor trim lights, exterior screens on the patio, and gate and fence lighting managed by a photocell.
- Conduit and power for the pool house and site equipment, including the sewage pump.
- Multiple exterior outlets to serve patio, entertainment, and maintenance needs.
These upgrades extend convenience and safety outdoors, supporting recreation areas and year-round exterior use.
Solar and Battery Storage
- Supply and install roof-mount solar up to 20 kW.
- Supply and install (2) Storz AI 15 kW inverters with 200A pass-through.
- Supply and install (2) Storz wall-mount battery cabinets with (4) Storz 5 kW batteries.
This infrastructure lays the groundwork for renewable energy generation and on-site storage, helping the homeowner prepare for efficient, resilient power.
