Level 2 EV Charger Installation in Charlotte, NC
Touchstone Electric’s Charlotte team completed a 60-amp Level 2 EV charger circuit for Duke Energy - Allumia in Charlotte, NC. Led by technician Mark Viktorovich, this project was finished on December 19, 2025 and was designed to deliver fast, reliable home charging while aligning with Duke Energy’s rebate program requirements.
Serving the greater Charlotte area from our Matthews branch, we handled everything from planning and permitting to a clean, code-compliant install that’s ready for daily use.
Scope of Work
- Installed a dedicated 60-amp Level 2 EV charging circuit from the main panel for a customer-supplied EV charger.
- Added a new 60-amp breaker and performed panel space optimization, including a 20-amp tandem breaker where appropriate.
- Ran appropriately sized THHN #6 conductors in 3/4-inch PVC conduit with secure supports, fittings, and weather-appropriate routing.
- Utilized SEU #6 cable where needed for a neat, efficient path from panel to charging location.
- Labeled the new circuit, verified torque settings, and performed functional testing to confirm proper operation under load.
- Managed the electrical permit process for a smooth, compliant installation in Charlotte.
This configuration supports up to a 48A continuous charging load on a 60A circuit, offering faster charge times and a future-ready setup for most Level 2 EV chargers.
Built for Safety, Performance, and Code Compliance
Our installation followed current electrical code and manufacturer guidance, with careful attention to conductor sizing, overcurrent protection, and conduit support. By dedicating a properly rated 60-amp circuit to the charger, we help minimize nuisance trips and voltage drop while ensuring reliable day-to-day performance.
All visible runs were kept tidy and protected, with clear panel labeling for easy identification and future service. This approach keeps the system both safe and user-friendly for the long term.
