Project overview in Salisbury, NC

Our Charlotte team, operating from our Matthews branch, completed a code-compliant upgrade for a homeowner in Salisbury, NC. The scope included installing a new 50-amp GFCI breaker, adding a tandem breaker to create panel space, running new THHN conductors in PVC conduit, and setting a weather-resistant outlet with an in-use bubble cover. All work was permitted and inspection was scheduled upon completion.

Primary category: Panels & Service Upgrades
Secondary category: Circuit Breaker Repair & Replacement

What we installed

  • 50A GFCI breaker: Provides ground-fault protection for a high-demand circuit and enhances safety for equipment and users.
  • 20A tandem breaker: Added to free up space in the existing electrical panel for the new 50A device without expanding the panel.
  • THHN conductors in PVC conduit: Pulled approximately 30 feet of #6 THHN in 3/4-inch PVC conduit with proper fittings and supports for a durable, code-compliant run.
  • Weather-resistant outlet assembly: Installed an exterior-rated box and standard receptacle protected by a bubble (in-use) cover to safeguard the outlet in all weather conditions.
  • Permit and inspection: Filed the electrical permit with the county authority and scheduled the final inspection for compliance verification.
  • Service call credited: The dispatch fee was credited toward the completed work.

Why a 50A GFCI breaker and weatherproof outlet matter

A 50-amp circuit is commonly used for higher-load equipment such as ranges, heaters, small subpanels, or EV charging equipment. Pairing that capacity with GFCI protection helps reduce the risk of ground-fault shocks, especially where equipment or wiring might be exposed to moisture.

Outdoors, a weather-resistant box and in-use bubble cover help keep connections dry and protected. This setup supports reliable performance and aligns with current electrical codes for exterior receptacles.

Permit handling and important notes

Touchstone Electric submitted the electrical permit and coordinated the inspection for this Salisbury project. Please note: only the electrical permit was included. Other jurisdictional permits (such as Historic Preservation, Environmental/Septic, separate subcontractor, or builder-related permits) are not included. If additional non-electrical permits are required, we will advise you on what is needed and can provide pricing to handle those on your behalf.
