Project overview
Touchstone Electric’s Charlotte branch completed a permitted, code-compliant installation for homeowner Lydia Staub in Charlotte, North Carolina. On August 18, 2025, our technicians Robert Sloan and Theo Coetsee installed a new 50-amp 240-volt circuit and a new 20-amp 120-volt circuit that included both a GFCI receptacle and a specialty outlet. This Outlets & Switches service was delivered by our local team serving greater Charlotte from our Matthews location.
What we installed
-
Dedicated 50A 240V circuit
Installed a standard 50-amp breaker and approximately 30 feet of THHN #6 conductors in 3/4-inch PVC conduit. This heavy-duty circuit is suitable for high-demand equipment such as a range, heater/furnace, small subpanel, or EV charger. -
Dedicated 20A 120V circuit
Installed a standard 20-amp breaker with approximately 30 feet of THHN #12 conductors in 3/4-inch PVC conduit. The circuit includes a new GFCI outlet for enhanced protection and a specialty receptacle selected for the homeowner’s specific equipment needs. -
Electrical permitting
We filed the required electrical permit with the county and completed the installation to current code requirements for Charlotte, NC.
Using THHN conductors within PVC conduit provides a durable, clean, and serviceable pathway, helping protect wiring from moisture and physical damage while maintaining proper conductor ampacity for each circuit.
Safety and code compliance
Every aspect of this project was planned and executed for safety and compliance. The 50-amp 240-volt circuit was sized and protected appropriately, while the new 20-amp branch circuit includes GFCI protection to meet modern safety standards where shock protection is required. Conduit fittings, connectors, and supports were used as applicable for a secure and professional finish.
Touchstone Electric obtained the necessary electrical permit and followed applicable code guidelines for conductor type, overcurrent protection, and installation practices. Note: local jurisdictions may require additional non-electrical approvals for certain project types. Our scope included the electrical permit; if other permits are needed by your jurisdiction (such as zoning or historic review), we’ll advise on next steps and can assist with processing upon request.
