50 Amp Level 2 EV Charger Outlet Installation in Charlotte, NC
Our Charlotte team from the Matthews branch completed a Level 2 EV charging upgrade for Duke Energy - Allumia in Charlotte, NC. On December 5, 2025, technician Christian Cedillos installed a dedicated 50 amp EV charging outlet beside the electrical panel and future-proofed the circuit with heavier-gauge wiring to support a potential 60 amp hardwired charger later on. A county electrical permit was filed for this project.
Project overview
This installation was designed to provide immediate Level 2 charging convenience while preparing the home’s electrical infrastructure for higher-capacity charging equipment down the road. Placing the outlet adjacent to the panel kept the run efficient and clean, minimized wall penetrations, and ensured a tidy, code-compliant finish.
What we installed
- Dedicated 50A EV charging receptacle located beside the main electrical panel
- New 50A breaker installed and clearly labeled for the EV charging circuit
- Heavier-gauge wiring (oversized for the current load) to support a future 60A hardwired charger
- County electrical permit filed and closed out per local requirements
By using heavier conductors than required for a standard 50A receptacle, the circuit is ready for a potential upgrade to a 60A hardwired Level 2 charger without the need to open the walls again or replace the wiring.

If a project requires other permits, such as Historic Preservation, Environmental/Septic, Zoning, separate subcontractor, or builder-related permits, those are not included. If additional permits are needed, we will advise on what is required and provide pricing if you would like us to process those on your behalf.
