Project overview in Concord, NC

Touchstone Electric’s Charlotte team, operating from our Matthews branch, completed a comprehensive new-construction electrical package for Urvesh & Ekta Patel in Concord, NC. The home totals 8,000 square feet (5,600 sf heated and 2,400 sf unheated). Work was performed to stamped customer-provided electrical plans and in full compliance with current NEC requirements. Completion date: October 24, 2025. Technicians: Will Cruz and Theo Coetsee.

This project centered on Panels & Service Upgrades and Meter Base & Service Replacement, featuring a 400A service with dual 200A distribution panels, whole-home surge protection, and dedicated circuits for HVAC and major appliances.

What we installed

  • 400A meter base and service: New meter installation with conduit, riser, and service entrance cable to the weatherhead and drip loop. Grounding system with two ground rods and grounding electrode conductor.
  • Dual 200A panels (40/80 each): Feeder from meter to panels, panel labeling, grounding and bonding, and all electrical boxes landed.
  • Main service disconnect: Installed per NEC requirements.
  • Whole-home surge protection: NEC 2020-compliant surge protector designed to help safeguard home electronics and appliances. Includes the manufacturer’s $10,000 warranty against appliance damage in the unlikely event of surge protector failure.
  • Smoke detection: Interlinking wiring at rough-in; smoke detectors installed at trim-out.
  • HVAC and appliance wiring: Dedicated wiring for HVAC systems and disconnects; power for builder-grade bath vent fans; hookups for customer-supplied disposal, dishwasher, range, cooktop, microwave, and dryer.
  • Branch circuits and protection:
    • Two 20A kitchen small-appliance circuits with GFCI protection for countertops and AFCI protection for lighting.
    • 20A GFCI laundry circuit.
    • 20A dining room circuit.
    • 20A GFCI bathroom circuits.
  • Lighting and devices: Outlets, switches, and lighting wired per plan or to NEC where plans were silent.
  • Permitting and inspections: Electrical permit obtained; rough-in and final inspections coordinated.

Note: Door bell and chime were not included. Any additions or changes beyond the approved plans require a change order.

Code-first approach for a reliable 400A service

For this Concord new build, our team performed load coordination and installed a 400A meter base feeding two 200A panels to distribute power efficiently throughout the home. All work aligned with NEC 2020, including proper grounding, bonding, main disconnect installation, and arc-fault and ground-fault protection where required. Panel schedules were clearly labeled to simplify future maintenance and improvements.

The whole-home surge protection device provides an added layer of defense for sensitive equipment. Coupled with properly sized feeders, dedicated appliance circuits, and compliant HVAC disconnects, this service upgrade supports present loads while providing room for future expansion.

From rough-in to trim-out

After the rough inspection passed, our electricians returned for trim-out to install smoke detectors, set HVAC and appliance disconnects, connect bath vent fans, make up terminations, and install fixtures in accordance with the plans. This two-phase process ensures clean inspections, safe energization, and a polished final result.
