400A Service and Dual 200A Panel Installation in Indian Trail, NC

Touchstone Electric’s Charlotte team, operating from our Matthews branch, completed a new construction rough-in and service upgrade in Indian Trail, NC. On February 24, 2026, our licensed technicians, Mark Viktorovich and Will Cruz, installed a 400-amp service with dual 200-amp panels, full grounding, whole-home surge protection, and dedicated circuits for HVAC and major appliances. All work followed stamped customer-provided plans and current NEC requirements.

Project Overview

This new build required a robust electrical backbone designed for safety, capacity, and future flexibility. We coordinated the rough-in to align with inspection timelines and builder milestones, ensuring all wiring, panels, and protective devices were set for a smooth path to final inspection.

Scope of Work

  • Installed 400A service feeding two 200A panels (one 40/80 200A panel), including feeder from meter to panel and complete panel labeling.
  • Set a compliant main breaker disconnect per NEC requirements.
  • Installed a complete grounding system with two rods and a GEC from the meter.
  • Added whole-home surge protection in accordance with NEC 2020.
  • Landed all electrical boxes and interlinked smoke detector wiring throughout.
  • Provided power for bathroom vent fans (builder grade).
  • Completed HVAC wiring and dedicated circuits for major appliances: disposal, dishwasher, range, cooktop, microwave, and dryer.
  • Installed two 20A kitchen small-appliance circuits with GFCI protection for countertops and AFCI protection for lighting per code.
  • Ran 20A GFCI laundry circuit.
  • Installed a 20A dining room circuit.
  • Installed 20A GFCI bathroom circuits.
  • Wired outlets, lights, and switches per the stamped plans; where plans were silent, we met current NEC code requirements.
  • Secured the electrical permit and coordinated inspection readiness.
  • Note: Doorbell and chime not included in this scope.

Plans, Code Compliance, and Inspections

All work was executed strictly to the stamped electrical plans and the latest NEC standards. Our team coordinated the rough-in to pass inspection efficiently and set the project up for a streamlined final inspection upon trim-out and device installation.

Allowances, Exclusions, and Clarifications

  • The bid and rough-in scope are based on stamped customer-provided plans. Any adjustments to the plans will be handled via a change order.
  • Budget assumptions include proximity of the 400A meter to the main panels. Significant changes to this distance may affect project cost and timeline.
  • Pool work is excluded at this time as it has not been defined.
  • Garage upgrades are excluded beyond code-minimum requirements until a complete equipment schedule is provided.
  • If the power company requires a load calculation for 400A service approval, Touchstone Electric will furnish it.
