Expert 400 Amp Meter/Panel Combo Installation in Indian Trail, NC
Touchstone Electric’s Charlotte team, based out of our Matthews branch, completed a new construction bid for a 400 amp meter/panel combo in Indian Trail, NC. This project is part of our Panels & Service Upgrades and Meter Base & Service Replacement services, tailored for safe, scalable power on modern builds.
Our scope centered on a clean, code-compliant service setup and a clear path to inspections, with provisions for plan adjustments and future upgrades as the homeowner’s equipment list is finalized.
What Was Included
- Scheduling the utility power drop with the power provider
- Pulling permits and coordinating inspections
- Installing a new 400A meter/panel combo
- Installing ground rods and grounding electrode conductors for a robust grounding system
As Indian Trail inspectors continue implementing NEC 2020, some circuits may require AFCI breakers. In homes with preexisting conditions—such as shared neutrals—new AFCI devices can trip until the issue is diagnosed and corrected. We communicate these possibilities upfront to avoid surprises and keep the project on schedule.
Items Not Included in This Phase
- Riser/weatherhead and associated components
- Breakers not specified in the current plan set
- Service entrance cable from the new meter to the weatherhead
- Feeder and conduit runs to the main panels (if needed)
- Pool work (discussed but not yet defined)
At the customer’s request, we can supply a generator for limited power during the outage. If the power company requires a load calculation for 400A approval, Touchstone Electric will furnish it.
Garage Wiring and Upgrades
This bid includes code-minimum wiring for the garage to meet local and NEC standards. Any enhancements—such as EV charging, extra circuits, specialty receptacles, or additional lighting—will be priced separately once a full equipment schedule is provided.
Trim-Out Scope After Rough Inspection
- Install and supply smoke detectors
- Connect vent fans
- Install disconnects for HVAC and major appliances
- Hook up customer-supplied appliances: disposal, dishwasher, range, cooktop, microwave, dryer
- Install light fixtures and devices in accordance with the approved plans
- Doorbell and chime are not included
- Additions or changes to fixtures/features from the original equipment schedule will require a change order
Plans and Allowances
Plans were uploaded on 4/9/2025, and the bid aligns with those documents. Any plan adjustments will be addressed via change order so costs and timelines remain transparent.
Pricing is estimated based on the proximity of the 400A meter to the main panels, which is not yet defined. Once that distance is finalized, we’ll confirm feeder and conduit requirements and update the final scope accordingly.
